This is the last day of a 4 day trip fly fishing for Striped Bass on the Miramichi River in Canada hosted by good friend and striped bass expert, John Field. We stayed at the Upper Oxbow Adventures lodge, and guide Ralph Richard was fantastic, with extensive knowledge about the Miramichi River and how to fish it.
An overcast and cooler morning, Donna O’Sullivan was amazed to watch the striped bass pre-spawn frenzy, with the river literally “boiling” with fish!
Donna O’Sullivan caught 52 striped bass that morning with the best fish at 27″, really fat and feisty. Using her LTS Dynamic 12ft6 8/9wt spey rod with a float/intermediate bass line made it fun and easy to cast further than a single hand rod, and catch more fish on the swing.
If you want to learn more about striped bass fishing, I would highly recommend John Field’s book “Fly Fishing for Trophy Striped Bass”, available through Amazon and fly shops.
