What a “Failed” Fishing Trip Taught Me About Life (And Big News!)

Night fishing for bullheads took a wild turn in this one! What started as a simple family outing turned into a multi-night mission, complete with a spot hijack, some frustrating weeds, and a massive personal milestone—catching my first-ever Bowfin!
But as any angler knows, the water teaches you a lot more than just how to reel in fish.
Here is how it all went down:

Night 1: The whole family (Jess, the kids, and I) headed out for some classic night fishing. We managed one tiny bullhead, but the crew’s patience ran thin, and we had to pack it up early!

Night 2: My oldest son and I headed back out to our go-to spot, only to find someone had already claimed it. Forced to adapt, we tried two completely new spots. Spot #1 gave us nothing but weeds. Spot #2? That’s where the magic happened, and I landed my first-ever Bowfin!

Night 3: Back at it with my oldest son. He rigged up for bass while I targeted bullheads again. Once more, only one small bullhead to show for it.

🤼‍♂️ Reframing Failure & The Next Chapter
With only two tiny bullheads across three trips, it would be easy to call this a bust. But toward the end of the video, I sit down to talk about what “failure” actually means—both on the water and in life.
Speaking of stepping up to new challenges, I also share some exciting personal news: I have officially applied for the Varsity Wrestling Coach position at the school system where I work!
If you’ve ever had a fishing trip (or a life goal) go completely sideways, this one is for you.
