The Edge Secret: Why You're Missing Out on Big Bass

The fish you’re after on every bank spot you walk up to are almost never where you’re casting. They’re sitting tight along an edge a rod’s length away while your lure flies straight over the top of them toward the deadest water on the lake.

Only about 10% of a lake actually holds bass, and nearly all of it is edges — places where one kind of water turns into another. A lot of those edges run right along the bank you’re already standing on. You don’t need a boat to reach them. The bigger problem is that even when anglers find the right edge, they cast straight across it instead of along it, which puts their bait in the strike zone for about one second per retrieve. Same spot, same lure — a different angle turns one bite into three.
