Mountain Island Lake Bass Fishing | Latta Plantation – Gar Creek Kayak Launch

New October 1, 2026

Late summer/early fall bass fishing on Mountain Island Lake in Huntersville, NC!

I launched my kayak at the Gar Creek Canoe Access at Latta Nature Preserve and made the short portage down to the water. From there, I worked Mountain Island Lake with moving baits and ended up catching both largemouth bass and spotted bass (Alabama bass).

The buzzbait and spinnerbait were the main players, making for a fun day of covering water and looking for active fish as the seasons started to change.

If you’re looking for a different way to access Mountain Island Lake by kayak, I’ll also show you the Gar Creek launch and what that short carry down to the water looks like.
