Early Fall Transition Bass Fishing

It’s late August y’all and the bass are feeding up as they move out. Now I ain’t no marine biologist or anything but it’s my belief that the bass migrate back down stream following the school’s of bait fish back out towards deeper waters.
I’ve noticed this year, with our cool dry spring and low water levels, that I caught more smallmouth before the water level came up to summer pool and than transitioned into largemouth as the water came up and the river became stagnant.
I’m curious if maybe the smallmouth transitioned back up steam looking for cleaner and cooler waters.
