Bass Fishing Lures Tested Underwater | Savage Gear Sandeels & More

Ever wondered how your favourite soft plastic fishing lures REALLY move underwater? 🎣

I’ve been experimenting with my new underwater lure tank, and some of the results genuinely surprised me!

It all started with the Savage Gear Sandeel. I wanted to see exactly how its paddle tail behaved underwater, but before long I’d pulled out a whole box of popular bass fishing lures to compare.

In this video, we’re looking at how different soft plastics behave with varying water flow, different rod movements and even bouncing along a sandy bottom.

Some have loads of tail movement, others are much more subtle, and a few behaved completely differently from what I expected!

Lures featured include:

🎣 Savage Gear Sandeel V1
🎣 Savage Gear Sandeel V2 – J-hook and weedless versions
🎣 Fiiish Black Eel
🎣 Fiiish Crazy Sandeel
🎣 Keitech Easy Shiner
🎣 Megabass Spindle Worm
🎣 Illex Nitro Slim
🎣 Down South Lures Supermodel

Plus a few more from my tackle collection!

One of my biggest surprises was the Fiiish Crazy Sandeel. Despite not having a traditional paddle tail, its movement looked incredibly natural to me.

But does the lure with the most movement necessarily catch the most fish? Not at all! There’s a lot more to fishing than that.

A quick note: This isn’t a scientific test or a ranking of which lures catch the most fish. It’s simply me experimenting with different setups in a tank, sharing what I notice and hopefully learning something useful along the way.

Different jigheads, hooks, weights and water conditions can all influence how these lures behave.

💬 I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Which lure do you think looked the most natural? Do you prefer a subtle action or a really aggressive paddle tail?

And what lures should I put in the tank next?
