Welcome to Big Leo, Your Big Bass Buddy!, where we’re dedicated exclusively to Fishing Planet and the pursuit of monster Largemouth Bass!

Whether you’re brand-new to Fishing Planet or an experienced player looking to improve your technique, this episode establishes the foundation for getting the most out of this remarkable fishing simulator.

I’ve been playing Fishing Planet on iOS for nearly five years, and one thing I’ve learned is that **catching BIG BASS requires more than expensive equipment and a tackle box full of lures!**

The developers have created an extraordinary fishing experience, with immersive graphics, beautiful waterways, changing weather conditions, and surprisingly detailed fishing mechanics.

But where should a new player begin?

IN THIS EPISODE: GETTING STARTED RIGHT!

1. FISHING PLANET: MORE THAN JUST A GAME

We begin with an introduction to Fishing Planet, what makes the experience so compelling, and why this game has become such an important part of my fishing adventures.

2. ESTABLISHING YOUR FISHING BUDGET

Fishing Planet is free to play, but optional DLC (Downloadable Content) packages and premium purchases can provide access to additional equipment and waterways.

We’ll discuss the importance of setting a reasonable budget, understanding what you’re purchasing, and avoiding one of the most common beginner mistakes:

Buying more equipment before learning how to use it!

3. UNDERSTANDING FISH SIZE CLASSIFICATIONS

Fishing Planet classifies fish into several categories:

– Young: The smallest fish, Up to 1.2 lbs.
– Common: Regularly encountered specimens, up to 4.2 lbs.
– Trophy: Larger fish, up to 8.6 lbs.
– Unique: The exceptional specimens we’re determined to find 9 lbs +

We’ll focus specifically on Largemouth Bass, discussing their size classifications and the pursuit of those elusive Unique Bass.

And I’ve got a special request for the Fishing Planet developers:

WE WANT BIGGER BASS!

Real-world fisheries have produced Largemouth Bass weighing 14, 16, 18 pounds, and considerably more. We’d love to see more of those extraordinary fish represented in Fishing Planet!

4. BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND: LURE PRESENTATION FIRST!

This is the central lesson of our introductory episode.

New players often begin by asking which rod or reel they should purchase.

But I believe there’s a much more important question:

WHAT DO WE WANT OUR LURE TO DO IN THE WATER?

The answer should guide our equipment selection.

A topwater walker requires a different presentation from a crankbait. A popper behaves differently from a spinnerbait. And working a worm or jig through submerged structure requires another approach entirely.

THE PRESENTATION DETERMINES THE EQUIPMENT, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!

5. THREE FUNDAMENTAL LURE PRESENTATION CATEGORIES

We’ll introduce three categories that will form the foundation of our upcoming instructional videos:

TOPWATER PRESENTATIONS

Walkers and poppers, focusing on rod movement, retrieval rhythm, and surface action.

RETRIEVE LURES

Crankbaits and spinnerbaits, focusing on retrieval speeds, presentation depth, and consistent lure movement.

WORMS AND JIGS

Soft plastics and jig presentations, focusing on controlled rod movement, pauses, retrieval timing, and fishing underwater structure.

6. THE ELUSIVE THREE-BUBBLE PRESENTATION!

Finally, we’ll introduce Fishing Planet’s lure presentation indicators.

We’ll examine how rod characteristics, reel configurations, retrieve speeds, and technique influence the game’s one-, two-, and three-bubble presentations.

Our objective is to develop techniques that consistently produce the desired lure action while investigating how those presentations relate to actual fishing results.

Because remember:

THREE BUBBLES ARE NICE, BUT UNIQUE LARGEMOUTH BASS IN THE BOAT ARE BETTER!

THE BIG LEO PHILOSOPHY

At our Channel, we’re not simply interested in showing you where to cast or what lure to throw.

We want to understand the game’s fishing mechanics, experiment with artificial lure presentations, examine fish behavior, and develop practical strategies for consistently locating and catching larger Largemouth Bass.

From Quanchkin Lake and the Everglades to Blue Crab Island and beyond, we’ll investigate the methods that produce results, especially when fishing conditions become challenging.
