Finesse Swimbait Fishing Tips for Fall Bass
Fall bass fishing can deliver exciting action when you find the right bait and location. In this video, professional angler Stephen Browning demonstrates how to catch bass with a finesse swimbait. He targets fish feeding on small baitfish around wind-blown points, standing timber and schooling areas.
Where to Find Bass During the Fall
As fall progresses, baitfish movement plays a major role in bass location. Therefore, anglers should focus on finding baitfish instead of automatically heading toward the backs of major creeks. When baitfish remain offshore, bass often gather around main-lake points and standing timber. Wind also creates productive fishing opportunities. It pushes baitfish toward points and grass edges while encouraging bass to feed.
How to Fish a Finesse Swimbait Around Timber
Browning casts his finesse swimbait beyond likely fish-holding areas and counts it down before retrieving. He then reels slowly, keeping the bait above submerged timber where bass often suspend. This technique allows him to cover more water than a traditional minnow presentation focused on individual fish. However, he changes his approach when bass begin schooling. During active feeding periods, he casts directly into the action and retrieves through the school. The key is matching the swimbait’s profile to the available forage.
Finesse Swimbait Gear and Presentation
Browning demonstrates how a lightweight finesse swimbait setup can deliver long casts and consistent presentations. He pairs a small swimbait with a quarter-ounce jighead. The jighead helps the bait reach the desired depth while improving casting distance. Additionally, the setup lets him adjust his presentation as bass move between deeper timber and shallow schooling areas.
