Where Bass Go In September and How To Catch Them

September bass fishing can be a great time to be on the water, especially as bass begin responding to the changes that come with the end of summer.

In this video, I’ll show you where I look for bass in September, what to look for when you get on the water, and some of my favorite baits and retrieves for finding and catching them.

Early in the month, I’ll still look for bass around thick shallow vegetation and the baitfish hiding in it. As the water cools, shallow grassy flats can become increasingly productive as bass move back toward shallower water to feed.

I’ll cover some of my favorite September baits, including frogs, Flukes, walking baits, the Spro Fat John 60, and smaller swimbaits, along with how I like to fish them around vegetation, grass lanes, breaklines, and shallow cover.

One of the biggest things to pay attention to this time of year is the baitfish. The young-of-the-year perch and bluegill are now a major food source, and finding them can be one of the best clues to finding the bass.
