I Had to Abandon My Plan on the Delaware River

I’m back on the Delaware River for the third time, continuing my search for bigger smallmouth bass and trying out more of the lure suggestions you’ve been leaving in the comments.

This time I started with a Whopper Popper before finally giving the wacky rig a shot — something I promised I’d try after my last trip. But between the weeds, the conditions and a few missed opportunities, things weren’t exactly going according to plan.

Eventually, I had to change things up, go back to something I knew, and keep exploring. And that’s when the day finally started to turn around.

Along the way, I also had an encounter with a great blue heron, discovered a small stream feeding into the Delaware, and learned a little more about a river I’m slowly starting to figure out.

This may be the end of my first three trips to the Delaware River, but I’m definitely not finished exploring it. My personal-best smallmouth is out there somewhere. I just have to find it.

Thanks for watching, and thanks to everyone who has been leaving lure suggestions and advice in the comments. They’ve become a big part of these trips.
