Smallmouth Bass Kayak Fishing | South Dakota Kayak Fishing | Summer Bass Fishing

It’s been almost 10 years since I caught a smallmouth bass, and today was finally the day! We hit the water for a few hours of kayak fishing in South Dakota, battling the summer heat and grinding through a slow bite before making one last move.

The day started tough. The fish weren’t cooperating, the temperatures were climbing, and time was running out. Instead of calling it quits, we loaded up and tried one more lake. Right at the end of the day, persistence paid off with a beautiful smallmouth bass—the first one I’ve landed in nearly a decade!

This trip is a reminder that not every fishing day is easy, but consistency pays off in the long run. Keep showing up, keep learning, and eventually the fish—and the memories—will come.
