A “naked” chatterbait doesn’t have a skirt but just uses the effectiveness of the unique blade design along with some sort of trailer to allure fish like crazy. Sometimes the fish just want a different look.
In this W-Central MO, mid-December 2023 video, a regular sized “original” Z-Man Chatterbait with a 4-inch MinnowZ trailer worked really well in and around dead and dying lily pad stems in 10 ft or less.
In a smaller configuration, a Z-Man Chatterbait Micro with a 3.75″ StreakZ trailer worked really well in depths of 5-8 feet.
The StreakZ, without the “boot” tail of a swimbait, allowed the lure to sink quickly and the smaller profile triggered lots of strikes.
