First fish and it went blind. The eyes fell out but it worked decent. Only took 2 casts and I hooked up. Also picked up some sleeper gill
I fished the Dark Sleeper all last year without a single bite 🤷
Excellent bait up here on the Great Lakes
The other day, I saw a kayak tournament guy fish with the dark sleeper killing it on docks and standing timber. I went out and purchased a couple of 3/4 and 1 oz. Today I went out and fished this bait and reeled in about 7 bass and lost about the same. The hook/land ratio was disappointing and I couldn't get my net out fast enough. I lost all of them as I was trying to net them while in my kayak. It seem like as soon as they got out of the water, they shook the bait out of their mouth. The dark sleeper definitely gets the bites.
both are good lures but don't throw them near woods unless you want to be snagged every single cast
Yeah I can't wait to get my hands on a couple of those
He’s not shiting they work great.
I cannot keep the smallmouth off the dark sleeper. My only issue is the hookup ratio. I get bit a TON on it but a slightly larger hook would improve it a bunch. Keep them coming Randy!
As the hook point is buried between 2 rubber walls or flanges or whatever, what's the hook up ratio aka landing percentage on these? Does it come through cover well? Rocks and wood? If you're going to promote something, the most important details are important. "This is a great bait" may work for inexperienced kids but not Millions of experienced adult anglers.
I agree with Randy on the dark sleeper – it's awesome! I caught a 4 lb smallmouth on the dark shad. I do have 2 complaints with this bait however. 1) Both eyes fell out after throwing the bait ~10 casts or so. Not uncommon from what I've read online. 2) Availability in retail stores at a reasonable price of the dark sleeper types I wanted for my fishing area. 😞
my pb smallie came off the dark sleeper, 6.23lbs
Whelp…there goes that secret
Have caught largemouth in Indiana on the Dark Sleeper. Good lure. Thanks for sharing
That’s the best color for crappies?
I ain’t had any luck yet gonna keep trying

No luck on the sleeper gill yet but I have seen it start falling apart after just 5 casts for 2 of them. Not happy with it, cant fish it through grass without the face ripping off. You should show the bait that is beat up from getting bites if you want to convince people.
By far my favorite pro angler appreciate the tips and secrets they have helped me out a ton Randy!
Sometimes you gotta sleep into darkness. It's okay to be silly but it's always good to get gilly. I'm just throwing it out there but the next one should be called that "Midnight Willy" Bc sometimes you gotta get up in dat "bass"
I would like to see a skinny shiner like profile of this bait! Called the sleeper shad or sleeper shiner.
Btw.. caught a 6 lb largemouth on one of your old school jigs a friend gifted me today. Was using hopping double twitch crayfish retrieve you taught on your jig 101 fishing video!
Hey randy.. you should do a video on how to use a Secchi disk to get a water visibility reading. All the pros talk about visibility but never show the easy way using a secchi disk to measure visibility.
I have both, they have never produced. I always think the should, but nope.
Got singed up
great video however i had a question regarding a popper 70 bait. they are new poppers i purchased and the line keeper is so recessed in the face of the bait that its a real pain tying onto the bait . only thing i can think of is adding a split ring but don't want to mess the action up. if you have any suggestions i would be grateful. thanks
I've been throwing the dark sleepers for while I've had really good luck on largemouth in cleaner waters with them. Haven't bought any sleeper gills yet
Randy, I took your advise and got a few of these a couple of days ago and within 45 minutes of opening the dag on thing I caught a 19.5” smallmouth (huge for central Ohio) thank you for always putting out amazing videos! You da man!!
I use the 3/4 dark sleeper. Bass luv it. Haven’t tried the sleeper hill but I have the chartreuse. Thnx for video.
The Dark Sleeper is the real deal! I’ve been catching em on it for a few years now. I haven’t gotten to use the sleeper gill yet but I certainly will be.
Guess I am
I have used the dark sleeper on the Detroit River and have had good luck.
Bet this bait would work well paired up with the livescope!
