Oklahoma bass pro Chad Warren is a big fan of chasing winter bass with Umbrella rigs and jerkbaits but is quick to pivot to the jerkbait when the bass visibly ignore his A-rig. Warren demonstrates how to use live sonar technology (Garmin LiveScope) to selectively target active bass while making on-the-fly cadence and lure changes based on each fish’s temperament (gear links at the bottom).
Here are Warren’s Top 4 Winter Jerkbait Tips:
1. Study the mood of each fish. Bass activity level and behavior often change day-to-day, from hour to hour, and even fish to fish. Make cadence and bait tweaks based on what live sonar is telling you.
2. Target bass higher in the water column. Better yet, target a group of “high riders” for the greatest chance of getting one to bite. While we used to think active bass hovered just below bait schools, LiveScope shows us that active feeding bass will suspend above the bait, high up in the water column. Groups of bass are usually more competitive than singles so prioritize schools of high riders over the rest.
3. Get the jerkbait to the fish quickly and naturally before it’s gone. Cast past the bass and work the bait up to it before it swims out of range.
4. Keep moving with the fish. You’re not catching if you lose sight of the fish, so Warren advocates keeping your foot glued to the trolling motor pedal and eyes focused on keeping LiveScope trained on the fish.

Question: If the Live-scope image is based on where the trolling motor is facing, how do you keep you boat in position during windy conditions? I use spot lock frequently, and the trolling motor is constantly making adjustments. Sometimes the bow of the boat won’t be facing where the fish.
I like a lot of the wired to fish videos but this one is a joke to me. I’ve accepted live imaging is here to stay but this guy is fishing a glorified pond, trolling around and pestering the biggest bass he finds. That’s a small, and I emphasize small lake, called “Taft lake” in Oklahoma. Look it up.
Unrelatable; I'm just a poor bank fisherman. Still gave you a thumbs up for content presentation and clarity of explanation.
Just go fishing, and see what happens….
Livescope sucks and so does anyone using it.
Awesome video thanks
Only watch tip videos from years ago before livescope, that’s where the real knowledge is at.
Excellent job with this video
Exactly, that's Garmin live scope. It's easy to win a poker game when you can see the other players cards. Without livescope most of these pros ain't 💩
I know that lake. Fish all the time.
The key is if you don't have that live scope you better get one. I'm getting one, I'm sold on this live scope….
Awesome video!!
So many haters on this thread. If you dont like livescope dont watch it lol this guy is DIALED
This video has to be a trolljob designed to piss off "traditionalists"😂
"When they won't bite your ALABAMA RIG, what ya gotta do is plug in your LiveScope with VR headset…"
Literally the most Zoomer type of fishing possible, but one hell of a cool sonar
Man, that’s some great info and video!!!
I appreciate you explaining clearly and simply and also for showing your Garmin screen as your catching fish.
Live scope is great for people who never learned how to patter fish on there own by reading water, weather, time of year. This is barley fishing you might as well shock the water and snag em.
These videos definitely make people wanna buy the new technology and baits.. It is obvious bass fishing will never be the same again because of this technology. It will balance out though eventually. The younger guys that only learn this and not excellent mechanics, fish behavior during spawn/weather patterns and how to flip and fish shallow will wish they had learned the old fashion way. Within 5 years people will be watching fish just like on a live camera feed and people will realize the best days of bass fishing are history. Just my opinion
Biggin.. lol nice hydrilla guerilla..
I worry for fishing in 20 more years when there wont be any mystery left. Fishing for crappie with livescope almost ruined crappie fishing for me. Its still fun and all but I feel like I'm high fence hunting.
Great video. Do you primarily use fluorocarbon when fishing jerk baits?
Gotta love all the guys griping that can’t afford lives-cope. My best advice Get a better paying job and stop settling for flipping burgers.
That 6th sense provoke Jerkbait for the money is the best Jerkbait out there
A total game changer for sure.
if i could afford the technology i would use it but i like the suspense of not knowing when the bites gonna happen
That’s awesome! That just convinced me I need it for offshore fishing
Damn, can’t even take the dip out his mouth to make a professional video?
Video game fishing isn't a skill. He reminds me of my kids being preoccupied with thier phone while attempting to participate in life..
That live scope is insane 👍🏼
Live scope. Sooooo stupid
Been fishin my whole life and this is crazy. Average workin man cant afford that stuff. Hard to comepete with that crap. Club i was in was full of glittets boats with 20k in electronics
Not everyone can't afford a $70,000 boat with livescope.
Smh, fishing is not the same, got to have thousands of dollars in graphs to be competitive.
Nice jacket❕👍I want the clothes you're wearing😁
Good stuff Chad! 👊🏼💯🇺🇸
Great video on the power of the LiveScope!! You can hate on it all you want, but the fact is this technology will help you catch a lot more fish. The angler still has to get them to bite! I don't own one either…………but I will someday!
The only tip in this video is you really need a Garmin Livescope to catch winter bass on a jerk bait. Basically a product commercial
Love that provoke 106 jerkbait. I actually prefer it over the megabass and not just because of the price. I'm not always a huge fan of the nose down suspend of the vision 110 and the provoke just gets bit…and those color options are 👍
Those 6th sense jerkbaits are the real deal.
All the new how to videos are the same lol. Find fish on radar…throw baits until one starts to work…film it…The end
Great info . I can’t wait for spring.
anyone with some money can catch a bass. big whoa.
Soon u can drive around and look for a 10 pounder ! Catch it n done ! That ain't fishin ! Oh well 😗
Great Video Chad on demonstrating the Mood of the fish in Cool Water.
The Live Scope technology puts you on the Target. 👍👍
THANK YOU for Sharing your Experience on the water. 👏👏
Those Bass Tank boys sure got ‘em a good fishin’ hole.
Good luck competing without a live scope
I love wired2fish, but I just don’t understand putting out content that is just an advertisement for technology that 99% of the viewers don’t have the means to use or afford.
This is fishing with wall hacks.
That's not even fishing anymore…
I really like Wired To Fish, but, what I do not like is video game fishing! Sorry tech fisherman. I hope one day there will be a fishing tour that doesn’t allow electronics. Not that I haven’t used them and been successful. Maybe I’m just an old school angler who truly enjoys catching fish by being aware of my surroundings, understanding fish behavior, studying the lake, and grinding it out. Kind of a lost art! Water temp, weather conditions, time of year…
Great break down.
