Winter Fly Fishing Connetquot River Long Island NY for Big Brookies and Rainbow Trout

The kayak’s in the shed, for the past 3 months i’ve been progressively becoming addicted to Fly fishing. It’s like learning to fish all over again in a fun and unique way.

Fighting the fish feels more interactive than with conventional rod/reels. The fly reel on my rod is more of a line holder than anything, most of the pulling power comes from stripping in line with my fingers and pinching it against the rod when the fish fights. If you’ve ever considered fly fishing, definitely give it a shot.

  1. Nice man, you really only just started fly fishing? You seem pretty good at it and those are some good-sized rainbows. You are so right, it's a much more interactive longer lasting fight because of the more sensitive gear and def a greater challenge, more rewarding style of fishing. Best of luck with it my friend!

  2. This looked like a lot of fun! Very relaxing too. You'd probably crush it with the fly rod in the kayak with saltwater. I've talked to people that have caught albies on the fly and that could be real fun from a kayak. Not many people making salt fly fishing kayak videos either.

  3. Thatโ€™s a nice zone considering itโ€™s on Long Island. Peaceful waterway, parks and such. Not much snow up north, Iโ€™m praying it shapes up soon. Itโ€™s that time of the year and we are overdue. Hawaii got snow ๐Ÿ™ƒ
