Winter Bass Fishing: Do NOT Match the Hatch!

Bass fishermen often use the term “match the hatch” (borrowed from fly fishermen) to describe lure and color choice. They typically want to pick a bait that closely mimics a specific forage for bass. Most people don’t realize that “matching the hatch” is usually a bad idea in fly fishing! If there’s no hatch, fly fishermen use baits that don’t mimic anything in particular, but CAN pass for a lot of different forage. Most of the time, bass fishermen should do the same.
