Windy Day Swimbait Fishing From Shore!

Come along with Matt throwing big swimbaits for giant smallmouth! Matt breaks down the water, explains his decisions, and gives some great tips for controlling your baits and line in the wind.

Big smallmouth are the best! Catching them from the bank is even better! Go figure the best bite of the day came while he was on the phone. The key to getting bit in this video was location. Matt selected a bank that was wind blown, had a corner where baitfish could be trapped, and offshore cover to allow the bass to ambush their prey more easily.

Below is a breakdown of the gear Matt was using in the video…

  1. It's an absolute shame this video hasn't gotten more views. The info on the wind alone is priceless. As a bank fisherman, sometimes kayak, the wind is a huge problem for me. I can't always fish the perfect spot or get around a bend and be wind free, or often I am fishing a pond that is wide open. During the spring, like now, we have winds of 20mph all day long, all month long usually. Its rare we get a day with even 10 mph or less and when we do it's usually rainy or colder. I feel like the wind isn't brought up enough, but now knowing what you have told me I understand why. Many have struggled like me, while others such as yourself have found a way to make it a lot less of a problem so you don't even notice that howling wind nearly as much as someone like myself who is dreading it before I even get to the spot! Lol.

  2. More bank fishing videos pls. I just bought me a setup u advised for throwing large swimbaits. I bought the s waver 168 to start with. I dont have a boat so itvwas fun and educational to see you catch from shore.

What knot did u tie the s waver 168 to your leader with?

  3. My home lakes are windy all the time. They have Rocky points and flooded brush. What I would like to see is a video of wind specific techniques and how to Target fish in wind blown areas. Angles of attack and such. That would be very helpful. Thank you

  4. Bro. That’s not no football. That’s a friggin BASKETBALL. Do you use the high 7.1 gear ratios for all sizes of glide baits or what?

  5. I used this exact information today on a very similar lake in central California with similar conditions and lost two sizable largies and landed a couple footballs. It was exactly like this video … crazy! haha

  6. Hey! That’s my lake. I’m glad it goes unnamed it’s quite the underrated resource for monster smallies. I can’t believe you caught any on the front I always catch the smallies on the sandbars in the outlet side. The smallest I’ve ever pulled out is 3lbs and I used to catch them on the fly.

  7. That was so siiiicck!!!!! I was fishing a golf course pond with my 200 and man I can't put it down I caught a literal giant about two weeks ago and several other smaller fish but I didn't have my scale or my phone so it's just a fish story but man it was fun.. y'all should get some kinda discount at tacklewarehouse that was the best fifty I've ever spent
