Will We See ANY Drastic Changes in Professional Bass Fishing in 2025

The 2025 professional bass fishing tournament season is right around the corner, and during the off-season there has been lots of changes, but will the 2025 season be any different than the drama filled 2024 season? Will we see any drastic changes in 2025 for professional bass fisherman and anglers? Will it stay the same as 2024? Can the jealousy, pettiness and churpping stop? Can we have a fun filled, action packed, bass catching season without all the drama? Let’s talk about that.

  1. Personally I think the NPFL gets a little too much praise. The quality of angler in the field is fairly weak (current pros dominate it), the payouts aren’t great, and the streaming / production is awful (phyx tv needs to go away). Personally think the FFS ban is a last ditch effort to stay around, and I have serious doubts that they gain significant viewership.

As a fan of the sport, I’d rather an emphasis on more regional angling. I respect the guy who dominates his region way more than somebody who has enough time / money to play pro in a pay league like NPFL or Invitationals.

  2. I 100% agree with your assessment of all 3 leagues. The only thing I would add is that the MLF team tournaments will be a big hit again in 2025. Hope you guys are hunkered down and staying safe down in FL.

  3. At this point, I don’t really care! It’s been so long since I’ve watched ( 3+ years ) a pro bass tournament I’m used to it! In my opinion, FFS had destroyed the integrity of bass fishing. That said, I’m excited about MPFL and looking forward to watching pro bass fishing again. As far as BASS goes, I canceled my membership years ago.

  4. NPFL is a great league that needs marketing. They have to get out there and get views. Maybe this band on FFS will help and get some people to watch. They also need some name recognition amongst the anglers. Im not saying these guys aren't good but you have to be known and they need some names. I don't care how good you are, if no one knows these guys no one is watching. As for BASS,, well let's start with exactly what you said. There are basically no changes to the rules so nothing to be expected there. I thin they need to step up their streaming and put out more content. I think they also need to put out some shows. They are relying on live and that isn't cutting it. Another hit to BASS is the retirement of Mark Zone. They really need to make sure they pic the right person to replace him. I think BASS will have a decline this year in their numbers but we won't know it because they make them up anyway. As for MLF, well they should be coming off a high with their team series being a hit. Maybe they will push that energy to the BPT and get get some growth. I think they are heading in the right direction but of course you still have those that despise the fact that they are breathing and will criticize them for at every turn. All in all I think we have a little up tic in the sport but I still think the real changes will come from all leagues in the sport in the next couple of years.

  5. Each organization will stand their post. They picked a lane and must stick to it, promote it, and campaign it. Lets be real, anglers have been complaining since the beginning. There's always an excuse. Don't tell me your problems from a deer stand. When the anglers truly realize that winning the classic, or the red cup, or whatever championship your fishing in will only secure your name, but not your financial future (because their is no reliable sponsorship) … bring back the trails and team events.

  6. Steve do you feel like you're getting dumber covering b.a.s.s drama for us lol 😂 I believe of npfl can get a little more backing and start streaming on YT they will blow up
After all the alabama bass trail streams their tourneys live on YT and actually do a good job at it, shoot if they paid for my travel I'd hold a camera in a boat for em for free
Just as long as I can mark all the spots haha and sell em lol

  7. Watching BPT, more interesting, will not watch Bass. Love the team series, and the limit on ffs, probably the best compromise. They are also, boosting the payout, to 150,000.00 Should make, the top 10 more interesting. If, the PBF is on tv or computer, will watch.

  8. Hey Steve. Let do each league one at a time.
As far as the NPFL is concerned, it is my least watched derby. Not that I don't like it, I do not get reminders on events, and that may be my fault. I'm thinking they are going to start out on fire as far as viewership goes. But if the fish catching is not on Par with the other league's, the viewership will drop off.
Now, Bassmaster is the status quote league. Their viewership is the highest of all the league's so far, but it has dropped over the last few years. And if this continues, they will have to make changes. Ether buy eliminating FFS, reducing the numbers of anglers or shorting up their live events. Days, weigh-ins, or all of the above.
The MLF is quietly moving up in viewership and participation by none MLF anglers in the Toyotas. Having good things to say about the event. Also, the BPT, as you have stated, is reducing their field over the next two years. There is also the shorting of events removing two days and removing the A and B groups, making it easy to follow, especially for non Bass heads. Because of the live scoring and cut line drama. We have to remember this is built for TV, not live crowds. Although I hear their last days, ramp/trophy crowds are not bad.
Let me know if there is anything I missed.
    Tight lines.
    Regards, Steven.

  9. I doubt there will be any changes as well. Hope NPFL really takes off. You are so RIGHT about the petty bullshit…thats never going to change. How did the sport evolve or devolve into so many winey little bitches?

  10. I think maybe increase in NPFL only after 1 Tx. Overall, I think all orgs will see loss in viewership due to all the whining and negative press/comments in the fishing social media. I think the only possible exception would be if one angler starts just spanking the other anglers, winning multiple or the majority of Txs on that trail.
PS: Keep you head down my friend with this coming storm. I think a good bit of the significant damage may be inland.

  11. As far as drastic changes go, the latest trend of catering to the drama seekers instead of the competitors is a mistake and unhealthy for the “sport”.
I guess if they can’t sell it for what it is, they’ll make a mockery soap opera out of it.

  12. The league that reduces entry fees and increases payout will ultimately prevail with the Anglers. It is time all three leagues got on board with it.
The wild card IMO, is the league that teaches anglers to interact with the camera during Live footage wins the fans.

  13. I like the NPFL but it's just pay to play. No qualifying. They need a feeder league or something to weed out some of the ones that have been there awhile that rarely if ever have cut a check. They need a points system to requalify for the next year. And I think 130 anglers is way to many. But someone with $30k to throw at them would be kinda hard to turn away

  14. Going to be interesting to see how it shakes out after the leagues cut anglers. If they really do. The last open is going to be fun to follow. There will be drama as long as we have social media.
Sitting here in Michigan watching the impending hurricane headed your way. Stay safe down there.

  15. I believe we will, more so for BPT and NPFL. Nothing but the same ole same ole will be seen from BASS.
Im guessing both NPFL and MLF will be a major growth over all and diversify anglers in all aspects.
As for BASS.. my guess 2025, will be more of the same as what we saw this year.
I do think a large list of elites will be leaving anyway. Headed for a new league. So no big loss.
Bassmasters has never evolved and keep pushing a worn out and tire product.
    Just my 2 cents……
