Why We’re DONE With The Industry’s BEST FISHING KAYAK!

Jeff and I have been running Hobie 360 Pro Angler fishing kayaks for years. We’ve put them through heck and we’re learned a lot. Mostly that when these things work they’re FANTASTIC. When there’s a problem though…it’s catastrophic. We also pride ourselves on authentic, honest, reviews that you can use. All of which is leading us to sell our kayaks and move towards more value based, reliable platforms that get people fishing and keep money in their bank accounts.

  1. I couldn’t talk myself into getting a new Hobie PA I just kept coming back to the fact I could get a 2 year old Outback FULLY loaded at half price. Also the fact that any gen drive will work if the md180 fails…apart from the 360 of course 🤷‍♂️

  2. Awesome video guys! I love my Oldtown. You guys should try to do a tour of Oldtowns facilities and come do some fishing with some of us Northern Nerds here in Maine. Cant wait to see what this next season holds for you both, the yaks, and the channel!

  3. I personally would have a hard time getting rid of my PA but I also am using a mirage drive and not had anything close to the experience you guys have had. That being said, I would say that the Old Town Sportsman series for a peddle drive or a Crescent Shoalie for paddle only would be my next choice.

  4. I just went with the Old Town 120PDL after watching many videos. Look forward to getting it soon and getting it out on the water in spring next year. Thanks for being honest on your channel, hard to find content that is not influenced by the manufacturers.

  5. When I stopped by my local paddle shop a couple weeks ago, they stated that word is Hobie has maybe 2 years until they are bankrupt. They also lost some of their dealer networks due to hobie attempting to strongarm them into exclusivity allegedly.

  6. I have a 2019 predator and it's a beast. I fish off a 136 autopilot right now and i still miss my predator sometimes because of the instant reverse. I was going to buy the 360 PA im so glad i didn't. I Think if i was goiong to buy a kayak right now it would be the ePDL bigwater. The safety of having a pedal drive as a back up would be too much for me to pass up even though i've never gotten even to 50% of a 100ah battery in a full day of fishing.

  7. I totally get the peddle drive/trolling motor crazy but relying solely on my arms to get me from A-B is what I love about paddling. Nothing is going to break and I have zero maintenance. I get that not everybody has this ability and anything that assists with getting folks on the water is awesome…to each their own.

  8. Seriously I know ppl have their opinions but I see nice boats for 5-6k on fb marketplace so spending that on a kayak just seems crazy but I know ppl like it and hey if ya got it go get it lol

  9. Making my son watch this. He hasn’t believed me when I told him of your hobie issues… but mom I want one… yah no.. talk to Jeff or Paul. Bummed for y’all’s issues…. And glad y’all survived G’ville!!! Thanks guys for the honesty.

  10. Jackson Knarr has been my golden goose! I will say, a good prop drive is fucking sweet, apart from weeds.

Hobie was bought by investors who have no reason being into kayaks other than profit, and have run down the business.

Hobie is refusing fair warranty claims which is really bad news, fantastic products when they work, but you need to have a local dealer to help you if ANYTHING happens.

New factory is in Mexico as well.

I’ll be saving up for the BlueSky 360 angler in the future.

  11. I have used Oldtown for tournament fishing since 2019 and have never been disappointed. They are very reliable and the drive system can be repaired for most things on the fly.

  12. I am look forward to getting a kayak but I am just looking for paddle kayak and thinking hard on the nucanoe unlimited I like the old Town kayaks they are just out of my price range thank you guys for information theirs probably a lot of people don't know any of the things

  13. I have run into different kayakers leaving with broken rides. Everything from broken drives, broken steering, broken seats and cracked hulls. For every broken yak there are probably hundreds of others (same mfg) who have not had a problem. I just had my Hobie hull replaced. The shop said they replace 5 or 6 a year and every brand has issues. But the issues are low in there opinion.

  14. When I was looking for a kayak it came down to 1) Native because of the pedal drive. 2) The Hobie because the mirage just would’ve been awesome on weeds around the CA Delta. 3) I chose the Old Town PDL because at the end of the day, the price and overall the warranty, sold me. Having seen this video (and tons of read after the purchase), I’m so glad I made that call from the get go. Perhaps I’ll just rig my PDL with a motor.

  15. Can’t speak for the 360’s. Love my Lynx, got it for the light weight. Does great on my local rivers and the 180 drive has been rock solid. My 2015 outback is still going strong and that works great as my off shore rig. It doesn’t see as much action these days as the Lynx fits a lot of roles.

Been looking at their inflatables for river use as they fit light weight bring less role.

I think that Hobie relies on their past and name a bit too much. Do your research and get the yak that works for you and what waters you fish. For me, I love the 180 drive and lightweight of the lynx. Did I pay for it? Oh yeah. But it works for me.

That 360 drive seems like a nightmare, waaay too many problems in a short amount of time.

  16. A great time and a good rant always does the soul some good! I started watching you guys for the sheer honesty and unbiased reviews that your content has provided! Best fishing bros on the platforms across the board… Thanks @aaanglers
