Why I Still Fish Alone

Sometimes I get asked why I’m always out here fishing alone. The truth is, I’ve spent most of my life fly fishing solo — from sneaking out behind my parents’ house as a kid to long road trips, backcountry hikes, and quiet days on rivers like this.

On this solo float through Central Texas, I got a little bit of everything: low water, tricky rowing, a few Guadalupe bass, a surprise topwater bite, and one of the prettiest stretches of river scenery around. More than anything, it reminded me why I keep coming back to these solo days on the water.
