The Jitterbug has been catching fish since 1937, yet most modern anglers have moved toward poppers, walking baits, and expensive wakebaits. That raises a simple question: did nearly 90 years of lure development actually improve on this strange old topwater?
In this video, I take a close look at the Arbogast Jitterbug, the oversized metal lip that creates its unmistakable side-to-side action, and why this design still has no true peer. I also explore whether the Jitterbug is essentially an early wakebait, why it became known as a night-fishing lure, and whether this freshwater classic deserves a serious test in saltwater.
This is the first part of the experiment. I will be testing the Jitterbug on the water and finding out whether the old design still does something modern topwaters do not.
