  1. The European model 😊😊.
Yes Randy you Are RIGHT 💪😎.
Its NO FUN every year at the start of the season (warming temps) BUT it helps Nature recover from the damage people do with their environment (pfas, sewage water with medicine residue, nitrate deposited from our stock pilled cattle and fertilizers for our crops and do NOT forget insect- repellants.)
It is BETTER TO HAVE AN OFF SEASON for certain species. 😊

  2. Randy, I think this is a good idea. Im a big fan of your videos, your insight and your expertise. The only issue I see is the enforcement? I would love to see more of a Game Warden, Fish and Wildlife presence at all waterways. I’m still a fan Randy, keep up the great work.

  3. As long as we have the post tournament mortality we’re seeing in the Livescope era I don’t think closing the season would help. We’ve reached a point where everyone wants to make a living off our fisheries. Thirty years ago it was a hobby, sadly it’s no longer like that.

  4. We have a season in southern Ontario that opens near the end of June, and our fisheries are in great shape. Where there is less fishing pressure in northern Ontario it’s catch and release during the spawn – seems to work great, and I am happy that my kids will be able to enjoy the great smallmouth fishing that I have.

  5. Impossible to enforce in Florida! I’ve been Bass fishing for 55 years ! I’ve seen 3 game people in that period lol….. I see police from time to time and they are more involved in boating safety ! I agree there should be No intentional bed fishing Ever ! Starting with all tournaments! If you are caught l breaking rules in a tournament, you should be suspended for the rest of the year ! Period! No live scope during tournaments or bed fishing ! . It’s easy to do in tournaments! Just don’t schedule any tournaments during there spawn !

  6. Glad to hear an older guy talking about future generations. Don’t think you are quite a baby boomer(or are you?) but waaaayy too many of them say “what do I care, I won’t be here” when talking about almost anything.

  7. Completely disagree. I quit tourneys 10 years ago and do 100% catch and release. Anything I catch goes immediately back. As I live in the south, I can fish 12 months out of the year, but July and August are too hot, January and February can be too cold, that's 4 moths gone. If you add 2 months to that, for your proposal, you are at 6 months. No thanks.

  8. How do you know if if someone is bass fishing vs crappie etc? I'd like to know how much damage 40 foot boats with 1000hp cause on lake of the ozarks. Its all about the money and tourism. I bet it's much more than catch and release fishing.

  9. This is a really good idea. The Deer analogy will really help people to understand what that 2 month moratorium will do. If people have to fish, go fish private ponds or lakes. Excellent idea Randy. 🎣🎣

  10. I think if you want healthy bass (or any fish) populations you need to protect the fish during the spawn. I know bass guys love the spawn but I agree with you, that's the time to protect them.
Florida has closed seasons for a bunch of saltwater species and there are more fish now than when I was a kid. That's because we banned commercial nets in 92 near shore, and because of the regulations. Snook were hard to find back then and now they're very common. Bass could be similar.
I suggest you go catch catfish or crappie or pike or something else that's not spawning while the bass spawn.
People do hunt deer during the rut and I think that's wrong. Hunting season should be after the rut for the same reasons.

  11. If we instituted no fishing from April to mid July as you suggest, you need to also account for the fact few people fish the many 100 degree days from July to right now here in Texas. That makes it April to October, half a year. This would encourage guys to take up another sport. I agree with your statement about loving the sport to death. Ever count the number of drift boats on prime trout waters? It is seriously bad. How about establishing a meaningful fee based license to fish during this sensitive period in a given state, and dedicate the funds toward enhancing fish habitat in whatever way will help sustain the fishery. Hunters pay for additional stamps for the right to shoot certain species. Would this be any different? If we don’t, look out for the privatizing our fisheries. This is already happening on our western trout waters. Of course this raises ethical questions about who has the right to access water.

  12. Couldn’t agree with you more. Minnesota and Wisconsin both have closed seasons. You can’t target bass until memorial weekend. Keeps the fishing good and there is always the lead up hype for the season to open

  13. It will never happen in my state of Washington. The reason is because they view bass as an invasive species and detrimental to the salmon and steelhead population. Right now there are places here where there are no limits on how many bass you can keep. It's very unfortunate because we have pretty decent bass fishing, Smallmouth and Largemouth of decent size.

  14. Here in Texas, we have the best fisheries program in the country. There are a lot of states in the country that need upgrades how they maintain their fisheries . Maintaining the fisheries with more creel studies, maintaining proper bag limits for each fishery and stocking of bait fish and game fish.

  15. You can't say a blanket statement like that for the whole country because you'd essentially end bass fishing in the north our spawn starts in mid may and ends mid july here if we weren't able to fish for bass during that time frame when would we fish. The problem with what Randy calls bass fishing as a whole is really just bass fishing in the south. If you guys down there want your lakes to get better you need to stay off of them for the most part for 4-6 months out of the year like we're forced to up here in the northern part of the country by weather. At the very least no tournaments from Nov.1st- the spawn is over.

  16. I agree with u on most everything but not this, I think no bass tournaments during the spawn and no FFS would b a good start, I think our lakes will need at least 5 yrs to recuperate from the damage of FFS!

  17. I agree to an extent with you but I don't see it happening . In my state Spawning doesn't start til June in my area (So. Jersey) so the whole summer months would be shot for me(June/July anyways) and I don't think they spawned but maybe 2 weeks outta that time of the year. Also it depends on the weather here. Here within a week we went from 70's- high 80's or 90's to 50's – and a high of 70's with high wind and rains. If it stays cold longer it pushes the spawn farther forward as well. Or if it heats up early (like this year) Spawn happened probably a month early. I Also don't have the luxury to travel to other time zones to fish so me going fishing in TX is a no go. I would say banning bed fishing would be a better idea. Like catch and release we adopted that pretty easy. I could see avid anglers not hitting bedding fish if asked not to. Good video as usual. love the topics

  18. I think we need a bass fishing license, where the money goes to restocking 2 + pounders. They do it with trout , why can't they increase stocking bass . Oh yes Florida strand bass . 👍
