What’s the BIG DEAL about Fishing Swimbaits in Spring?

What’s the big deal about swimbait fishing in spring? In this video we talk to my friend Keith who loves to fish swimbaits for bass pre spawn, spawn, and during the summer to catch HUGE fish. We go through what swimbait lure to use, what rod, what reel, and how to fish the bait around grass and cover to catch bass. We even run into Tactical Bassin!!!

  1. Dude is right on about big swimbaits. The key is patience, patience, patience and finding the right opportunities. Big glides are addictive all by themselves. Buying a new one, making it glide just right, and then jacking a tank on it. The best thing about big swimbait fishing is the sheer aggression of the fish. I was using a 7" 2.4oz bluegill glide down here in North FL the other day, and had a 5 pounder almost rip the rod from my hands. They hit these things like they want to annihilate them. You'll be reeling and all of a sudden it doesn't just stop, dude's right, the line will straight jump sometimes. When it gets warmer, you can burn them down weed lines like crazy and trigger super awesome reaction bites.

  2. How do you set the hook on a large swimbait when the just wreck it. I've had big bass hit swimbait so hard my rod almost comes out of my hand. So I don't get a chance to let them eat it because my line is so tight.

  3. Swimbait fishing is addicting I've got thousands invested in swimbait and glide baits Keitech swimbaits also work really well especially if you are new because they have them in practically all sizes all the way up to a 7.8 works great with an owner beast hook also creeping on the bottom they get bit ALOT!!!

  4. Holy shit last year I was throwing the like 8" gambler big easy idk exact size but the biggest one. And I literally experienced exactly what he said. 5# to 8 even landed over 10#sand they would launch out of the water a couple feet in air with the bait in the mouth. I couldn't believe it.

  5. I agree with you about the Tactical Boys, and their channel.. very informative, and a great resource especially when it comes to gear, and of course, the sub surface footage, but when you want to learn the ins, outs, and how to's, you go to a real teacher.. no BS, no
pretense, and no being spoken down to.. You have become my #1 go to, head and shoulder above the rest… not to mention we fish alot of the same waters, and where else can someone go to for a BOG!!! Keep them coming sir..
BTW, throwing big swimbaits is my newest passion.. thanks for this latest one!
