What the PROS will NEVER Admit about the Fishing Industry

I watched Bassmaster Elite Series PRO Jacob Foutz’s video and there was something missing from his story. I met Jacob at 44 Tackle when he qualified for the Bassmaster Elites and talked to him about this very subject – listen to the podcast https://www.youtube.com/live/MgzjEln6Yos?si=fcMI_MrhuB2DVnKt But the pros never tell the whole story and admit the real truth about the fishing industry and tournament fishing.

  1. Clout chasing on social media has brought out the absolute worst in people. A lot of real ones have gone radio silent on social media because of all the freegrazers and copycats. Try being in the bait making world lofl!

  2. GARY Kline was telling guys that wanted to fish professionally to get a business degree close to thirty years ago. Jacob sounded like a young dude with a dirty diaper attitude that wants things to be the way he wants not the way they are.

  3. No different than golf, you have professional golfers, golf professionals, and YouTube golfers. Guys on the PGA Tour are the best of the best. There are more lottery winners per year than guys on Tour…..same as Elite fishing. It’s hard to compare content creators with full time professionals in their old school job

  4. Well yea why would you tell your secrets if it’s competition. Now it’s all about tech but before you had to really fish. YouTube made it so anyone can fish and in turn it’s way more crowded…it’s called selling out. YouTube sold out fishing so guys that couldn’t make it in tournaments could make money.

  5. Lunkers TV called Jacob on live stream.

The Bilge Podcast had Rob Terkla on most recently. Its a really good interview for anyone to checkout. But probably not for the tribal label simps.
The advice Rob gives jacob is GOLD!

You all should have heard about the Reel Golden Rule by now.

  6. Here's the sad part about what's happening to Randy Blaukat for simply stating the problems with FFS. Isnt it weird that Randy's Blaukat's name is becoming more recognized, even if he's being labeled notorious instead? It's just because people agree. Not because he has so much influence.

    Then the Ben Miliken effect….

When it comes to Ben Miliken, the tournaments are hoping to attract more of the YouTube audience. Trying to get some of their original audience back. It isn't working out for them though. For several reasons, not just because Ben has a big duplicitous mouth.

Because watching tournaments used to be one of the only ways to learn about successful new techniques, because the pros were using and winning with the new technique. That was only possible if you had cable TV OR Satellite TV.

But with the Internet taking away viewers from cable TV. Like LTE and 5G has made landlines, satellite/CABLE TV lose a lot of money, people are just less dependent on watching tournaments. That explains why bass fishing tournaments are losing sponsors.

Their audience already has shrunken down to mostly competition fans. Finding out what the winners were using doesn't depend on watching the show anymore.

Dropshot fishing became popular only after it started winning Bassmaster tournaments in the early 90s. But it, like wacky rigging was a well kept secret by the pros for many years before those tournament wins.

So….. Here's the reason why tournaments are reluctant to ban or limit Livescope. It makes success in tournaments easier for less talented people. That's why Junk Fishing isn't something embarrassing anymore, like it used to be in the 1990s.

With all the increases in tournament anglers, shouldn't the fees and prizes increased along with the participants?
They used to be much higher in the 1990s when Walmart owned FLW.

HIGH PRODUCTION COSTS AND LEGACY MEDIA REQUIREMENTS are just too expensive for the competitive bass fishing audience. It's as simple as that. That's probably why tournaments are very reluctant to provide the data they already have. They need to make tournament participants and fans of tournament fishing make up the loss in advertising revenue.

But reducing the awards and prizes won't make professional tournament bass fishing more appealing to the general public. Making fishing easier for the general public might make it more appealing to the general public.

That's why using Livescope, no matter how it takes the recognition away from the most talented and experienced anglers, is not something the old school bass fishing families, that used to have a monopoly on the sport, are reluctant to give it up.

But unfortunately, it also causes professional bass fishing to lose it's magic and allure to the general public. It just looks like catching and harassing fish more than it does what it used to be, a master angler calling in the fish and charming them into taking his hook. Those days are over.

  7. What pros forget, it is local guys and gals who fish small tournament trails and local lake tournaments are the consumers who support the fishing industry. These pro tournaments trails have to make a profit to continue to exist. The payouts that were promised and expected were unrealistic. The companies have to pay for administration, tournament directors, etc. And because of social media, anglers can learn much more from guys like you and tactical bassin. ❤❤❤ and sponsors know that as well. You can't just fish pro level tournament trails and survive.. you must promote yourself and your sponsor effectively and honestly, or died.. GMan is best at doing that as pro.

  8. You are 100% right back when you were throwing D&M custom baits on that little boat catching monster fish there was no one out there showing how to flip in real time or that custom swim jig bite that almost snapped your rod in two(awesome)there was a serious lack of info out there but you got it done and I thank you for it

  9. Personally, I want real people, real personality, on the water content, and learning something from everything I watch. I watched a video released by an elite series angler today that was a good video but had TWO sponsor plugs in it… I get it ya want $$ but man one is all ya need per video. That's why I like watching your stuff, B. LAT, Ben Milliken etc… it's entertaining and I take away something from every single video I watch. Keep doing what you're doing!

  10. The pro anglers organized at one time but that group never put the necessary pressure on the tournament organizations for lower entry fees and better payouts.❤ Great vid, I have seen this coming and kind of expected the anglers to stop having that false dream.

  11. OMG! You’re exactly right Mike. You and a bunch of others on YouTube are the reason I am obsessed with bass fishing. Real content and genuine personalities. Keep doing you brother. Tight lines!

  12. Bro i just turned 59 and you're still able to teach me some of the new techniques and some mods to some old favorites. I appreciate the way you speak directly to your base not at us. Keep on keeping on bro give bog a belly rub from this old guy.🤙
