What Should Happen to REPEAT Offenders During Tournaments

What should happen to habitual and repeat offenders that have tournament violations in professional bass fishing tournaments? Should the rules be stricter for anglers who break the rules again and again? Should the fines and penalties continue to increase each time a violation occurs? Let’s talk about this.

  1. Blowing no wake zone severely impact the reputation of the organization that is running the tournament! Up here blowing a slow zone is a DQ, penalties have to be harsh enough to have any effect!

  2. For repeat offenders I think the fines or penalties should be harsher. Maybe even have to requailify for the elites after two offenses. With Trey he is really still just a kid, but he is in an adult atmosphere. Maybe like with the younger anglers even though they are qualifying thru opens or such Bass needs to look at each individual and see if they have the maturity to handle it or need to sit out a year or so. Thanks for your outlook and videos on these topics.

  3. These kids have ruined B.A.S S. and B.A.S.S. is paying the price…none of my friends no longer watch like we used to…the coverage now sucks all Van Dam gone Zona gone Matt H gone….rules get shit on and my neighbor told me marching bands during live wtf ?

  4. Yes fine them. Make it expensive even. No dq for a no wake not marked. Not an excuse for not knowing about it if discussed in their meeting. Other infractions absolutely dq them but has to be a case by case basis not an angler by angler basis. That would go a long way. One set of rules for all including Trey. Wish I knew the entire Scott Martin story feel his punishment was a bit harsh if it went down how he said it did. He opened his mouth made a mistake but these things IF honest mistakes have a huge impact on AOY, Classic Qualifications etc. The rules have to be in order and followed but nuances aren’t always grey areas as we speak about them as it pertains to tournament fishing.

  5. First of all, the rules are posted on the Bassmaster website before every tournament. It is the responsibility of every Angler to be familiar with them. The penalties are already in place by Bassmaster. They give out the penalties not YouTubers-lol
The Anglers that walk a fine line on the rules and find loop holes in them are doing nothing that other professional sports teams haven't done for years.
If your going to bring up Trey Mckinney's name and drag it through the mud, saying, "Oh there was so much controversy following him last year", at least provide some facts of what your talking about. Thanks!

  6. I like Trey I think he is a really good angler, kinda cocky at times but it comes with the territory I recon, but you do have to be held accountable for you infractions. I do remember hearing that last years was in a designated BASS no wake that is not marked with buoys? but that is even more of a reason that you have to pay attention to their meetings. idk if this is that incident? I had no idea it even happened again. but I have mixed feelings I recon Steve . if this was the incident. I did not know it was a monetary penalty too I thought it was just a 1 hr delay at take off. keep up the good work Steve I appreciate you keeping us informed 🎣🎣

  7. I agree fines go up then something like 3 strikes and you're out! Maybe create a committee voted on yearly by other anglers, for angler representation and vote along with bass. So it's all transparent then, nothing is done behind the scenes and the anglers have input. (Individual votes private so there is no backlash.)

  8. Hey Steve, there is only one word that comes to mine when I think of this guy is doing the same infraction in the same location. (Dumb Ass). Pardon my language.
Im not sure there is president for this? But it, in my opinion, should definitely double the fine on a second offense. On a third, a disqualification is justified.
The fines should also be public knowledge to keep the sport honest.
Protecting an angler does not always protect the sport. Let's hope Bassmaster keeps out of drama for the rest of the season. Fingers crossed 🤞.
    Tight lines.
    Regards, Steven.

  9. Pretty soon all of these professionals will realize that the probability of coming ahead financially every year is practically impossible . The only thing keeping the sport alive are the sponsors …soon they will shift away from tournament sponsorships and simply sponsor independent media producers to promote their products …it is much more cost effective advertisement .

  10. I'm not sure on the reason as to why bass placed a no wake zone. Hard to think about it when its not visible on the water. I like the time penalty and it should keep going up every time you break a no wake rule, and this rule follows you for every BASS event. Opens and Classic included

  11. What is professional bass fishing? Is it a true a true merit based "sport" or just a form of entertainment? The person that is currently recognized as the number one bass fishing angler in tournament bass fishing today has failed numerous polygraph tests regarding information collection, and is still allowed to participate. That in of itself should answer your question. I'm an old bastard, I was down fishing Kentucky Lake back when FLW first started and people were qualifying for the FLW through the Redman circuit. I was in a bait shop and a couple of Redman competitors were complaining that they were being displaced by NAME anglers from BASS that hadn't went through any qualifying process. Then we saw in real time, during the split, name anglers from FLW trumped people that actually qualified for the BASS Elites through the BASS Opens. WTF When the BPT was established, they just took name anglers (mostly from BASS), there was no qualification process. These things showed anyone capable of critical thinking that tournament bass fishing is a form of entertainment and not an actual merit based competition. This is why I don't take any of this seriously, and why I believe tournament fishing is dying a cruel slow death….

  12. Today’s anglers has very little ethics when it comes to integrity of tourney fishing. Don’t confuse fishing as a sport because they are not athletes or are they athletic

  13. Well i said no wake,my bass boat throws a bigger wake a 5mph then it does at 65mph. Just saying it said "no wake"😂😂 and those who don't read this whole comment, it was a joke.

  14. If anglers continue to break rules that pertain to waterways and fisheries then that state wildlife enforcement should ban that organization’s ability to hold any tournament on that particular body of water or the entire state. I know tourneys bring a lot of revenue for that county or state but is it worth it ?

  15. This (no wake) is unmarked and not a stste law in this perticuler section of water. This No wake was a BASS rule placed on that section of water.

That being said he still broke a tournament rule so he sould be punished in some manner with the punishment increasing with each offense.

  16. If you want it to stop, you’re going to have to make it hurt on the first offense. The severity for the infraction has to be at a level that it’s not even worth thinking about breaking it.

  17. DQ for repeaters.

Heck the only thing you need to do to get an Elite DQ’ed is run up to them and say “fish the grass with a frog” and boom, DQ’ed because they just got info.
BASS really needs to rethink some things.
