It's funny how people all of a sudden are caring about fish ..you do no in most states you can keep Bass I know crazy
like 5 a day we been doing it forever and people still catch more fish hell bigger fish if you was out there fishing along those pros which you would be if you could you would not say a thing
Same ol crap different video. Name names or STFU!
The only way to bring about the needed change is to ban all tournaments. The end of tournaments will be the end of forward facing sonar.
I'm with you Randy. Go back o the way it was and make the fishermen work and prove how good they are!. But no one speaks out for the sake of losing money, which rules . Sorry to say,
I’m Randy. Please regress the sport enough so I can still compete
I just watched an old “Bass Pros” episode from 2013, and they had Rick Clunn teaching seasonal patterns. My ears perked up when he started saying how concerned he was with the new GPS technology-specifically how young anglers were relying on it too much, and losing the opportunity to learn how to find fish using on their own. Given his stance now on FFS, I guess it wasn’t that big of a deal after all.
I feel it could be a dangerous path to start banning certain things, as it opens the door for larger bans to be implemented..
Let’s not be naive either – traditional sonar and side imaging are still used as a tool to help catch more fish. Just because you can’t see them in real time, doesn’t mean you aren’t targeting fish in a similar methodology.
There are two parts to this conversation that I feel need to be addressed.
1. Tournament Fishing – I’m not a tournament fisherman, but do agree electronics have gotten a bit over the top and should have rules on how many transducers and graphs should be on boats.
2. Conservation – As technology progresses and more people are fishing, bag limits on fish need to be addressed to protect our resources. In my opinion, this is a bigger problem than FFS. In fly fishing, it’s pretty much an unwritten rule that you don’t fish redds/spawning fish. In bass fishing, you specifically target them so we seem to be our own worse enemy, regardless of the technology being used.
A good first step is to stop weigh ins in all tournaments. Completely idiotic to stress and kill fish because of this. Weigh them, measure them, picture, and put them back..
Since it would be almost impossible to ban FFS or and any sonar technology at this point, states need have a more proactive approach to bag limits to protect our resources.
To be fair, if they are current anglers, they could lose their career trying to fight things like FFS. They lose their sponsors and then would have to go out and compete without FFS and be at a disadvantage. Let alone all the money they would be out of pocket without their sponsors. They could lose their livelihood

Randy.. thank you for offering your wisdom to the world.
Randy, how can you possibly say that technology cannot be in the fishing industry , the fishing industry is full of technology. You really think officially from 50 years ago? Would look the same as a fisherman today?, come on Randy wake up
Nice thought Randy, but let's be real, at the pro level the goal is to get paid, and nobody and I mean nobody is going to piss in their Cherrio bowl and risk upsetting their sponsors and/or the trails they are fishing that are paying their bills. Besides, at the pro level greater than half of the pros support FFS, so good luck finding pros to speak out against it. Sheeesh…
Spot on Randall
I’m a simple guy, I have an 8’ sun dolphin, 55lb trolling motor, and a $200 Garmin Striker 4 CV. It’s all I need. Granted I’m not fishing tournaments, but I have fun.
Are we essentially talking about the ability to monitor the action of fish as if it were on a TV screen? If so, it doesnt really seem like the best way to see who the best fisherman is.
Tournament fishing is what is killing bass populations, not FFS. Do the math. 500 tournament anglers on a lake 4 days a week equals 2000. Times 5 fish is 10,000. Times 20 weeks is 200,000. With a 50% mortality rate is 100,000 per year. Kill 100,000 of the biggest fish in a lake every year and the population has to decrease. I read some old surveys published by Bassmaster from the 70’s that said an average of 12 to 14 bass per acre on a good lake. Do the math.
its big corp sponsorship! it ruins everything! these corps dont give a dam about our communitys yet we have let them in everywhere. from. campaign contributions to sports to technology. irs called SELLING OUT!
Hey Randy, check out Chris Johnson’s video on the polar plunge tournament on beaver. Did well with a 16’ tracker with one flasher.
I have fought this my entire adult life.
Doing the right thing has cost me a lot of friends and money .
People’s excuses are always someone is going to make the money- it might as well be me.
Or it’s not going to change anything if I’m the only one doing it.
The 3rd and most common is just repeating what you see and fitting in with the crowds morality even if it doesn’t feel right.
Hope everyone listens to your message
I hardly ever agree with much you say but i stick with your videos because you don't back down and your full of actual fishing information
While I agree with your bottom line of standing up for what's right regardless of the cost, it won't happen. Too many are caught up in the false narrative of one voice won't make a difference but I'll lose money because of it. Greed. Same reason why the majority want the Forward Looking Sonar, they want the money for a win but don't have the experience and intuition to earn it without high tech gadgetry.
Absolutely pros need to speak up and join the fight
I'm just curious. So, … just what do you consider as being "old school" fishing or tournaments? IF it includes electronic Depth/Fish/ Finders, Chart Plotters, Loran, GPS, … it's not "old school". IF you think electronics are included as "old school", … how far back in time, or electronic technology do you think fishermen would have to go, to be considered as fishing "old school"? For that matter, do you think fishing out of $85,000-$140,000 bass boats that can run 75-95 mph are considered "old school" too?
I am proud to say I can still catch fish without ffs
Democrats and Republicans are both full of shit. They always screw over the people that vote them in.
Technology and over development is killing our hunting and fishing.
If anyone on their death bed is thinking of anything other than their family, friends and loved ones, I can assure their life is filled with all sorts of other regret beyond bass fishing and forward facing sonar. Great way to blow this out of proportion though
Holier than thou? You know better than everyone that doesn't speak up like you, I suppose. Even calling angling veterans like yourself who don't "speak up" cowards. That's going to win support, so keep that up.
You've yet to make a science based and objectively factual argument to substantiate the perception of an impact on the resource from FFS. You offer an opinion, which you're entitled to for sure, but that's ultimately all it is. An unproven theory. You argue no tech with fishing yet use 2D and 3D sonar, GPS, waypoint marking, detailed mapping and a modern bass boat. Granted you have found your algorithm niche and it drives channel views but your anecdotal observation isn't based on anything more than a guess. A man with no skin in the game speaking up for something they believe is not brave. I'm sure there are quite a few topics elite anglers would like to see changed long before FFS and they remain quiet to keep their job. That's not difficult to understand. We've all been there. Labeling them cowards is a stretch. Especially when you have absolutely nothing to lose by griping about FFS and everything to gain financially as you do.
They Need to stand up !!!!
It’s over Randy – Fishing has just started. It’s in its infancy state forward facing sonar. Everyone is on a level Plainfield now this isn’t a good old day the Yeehaw cowboys no more privileged grandfatherd in
this is new age shit get with it
I’ll be on my death bed so happy my Livescope helped me to catch over 13lb bass!!
The biggest problem? Just like hunting, it has grown since 1970 to where the resources simply aren’t enough to give the angler or hunter the same experience as one would have back then.
I’ve noticed over the years that it is much more difficult to go out and catch bass and catch quality bass on lakes. There are more people out and the amount of tourneys on all of these waters is insane!!!
I just don’t bass fish. I fish for other species as well. I really think with crappie being a schooling fish, that the quality and numbers of crappie are going to be heavily depleted with the ffs.
I miss the days when it was fairly easy to go to any reservoir and catch bass.
I don’t think ffs is helping things at all.
Those early Pros (we know their names) knew how to read a lake, pattern fish, and actually How to fish.
Watching the ‘pros’ just stare at giant screenS down by their feet on tv, just is Not like the old days.
Ranting with Randy back for 2025
My only comment is to start your own old school tournament. You paid your dues Randy . No pre fishing with forward facing sonar. Only old school time on the water paying your dues it will attract the ones that are the best. In my opinion.
104 of the elite series fishermen were invited back for 2025 and all 104 accepted the invitation. I just dont believe they are all as upset with everything as you say.
100% agree and your adherence to what you believe in, and lack of fear in spite of the hatred that you receive, is admirable.
A lot of cowards these days, can’t stand an opinion that doesn’t align with their own. As if an opinion can stab them, or something
Really not long ago, people could disagree with someone’s beliefs, but not feel the need to attack their character.
The world has gotten lazy, and soft.
If you’re competing in a fish contest no electronics should be allowed! Period! No fish finders, no ffs, nothing just your knowledge of the lake you’re on and old fashion trying. Was fishing a tributary the other day a guy walked up dropped a sonar in the water by me and goes “you’re wasting your time there’s no fish here” like bro what! Kick rocks literally creek fishing just doing the good old 3-4 mile walk up and down and this dude just acting like a clown. There’s no skill anymore
