Walmart sells an IM7 graphite bass rod for $50. Bass Pro Shops charges $250 for similar specifications under a premium label. The actual engineering gap: marginal advantage for tournament pros earning income from fishing. The marketing budget gap: $200 in retail markup the casual angler pays to fund celebrity endorsements and Bassmaster Classic sponsorships.
In this video we count down 10 bass rods under $100 that fish like premium G. Loomis and St. Croix rods — from the absolute beginner $33 Okuma Classic Pro through the $48 Dobyns Maverick that delivers Gary Dobyns tournament-grade engineering at sub-$100 pricing.

I gotta keep it a buck, I run Ozark Trail Baitcast rods. I have a 7 foot medium heavy for jigs and all around fishing paired with a shimano slx xt 151 with a 7.2.1 gear ratio and a 6’8” medium moderate for jerk baits and top water paired with a modified Lewes classic speed spool at a 7.5.1 ratio. I fish (A LOT) both of these rods perform fairly well. I used to use the Bass Pro carbon light series. Still do on occasion for BFS and then I have an Abu Garcia vendetta (the updated version) which is also $100 rod. And I believe the guides on the Ozark Trail OTX rods are smoother than the Garcia.. gives you about the same performance as the carbon light series. They are Im7 blanks for around $35-$40. The rating on them seems to be little off so for a medium heavy I can cast down a to a quarter ounce and send it a mile it will even throw 1/8 comfortably. But it is a learning curve to set the hook because it is not as strong as you think it would be. But it handles 10 pound fish without issue so far. Hell I even hooked into a 38 inch musky on accident while throwing football jigs and horsed it in with that medium heavy rod. I’ve had the medium heavy for like two or three years of heavy use.. and the medium moderate for about a year still no issue. Although in that time. I went through a couple different more expensive Abu Garcia Rods. I use the Abu Garcia for catfish. Mainly. Here and there I think about getting another Rob to try I’ll get it paid 100+ dollars just to be disappointed in the price to performance department. I have owned St. Croix rods that broke on 6 pounders.
The tourney specials are kinda crap. They work but they are bulky.
Bass is not pronounced base. Jesus, what a terrible job. Hard to take such videos seriously although I do agree that overpriced rods, reels, lures and lines are a real problem today. The newer product lines like Kastking, etc, sure make a lot of sense versus Shimano and the supposedly top line products. The top pros are given rods and paid to use them. Someone has to pay for that. Who, you guessed it, you and me.
I’m 80 and have fished for over 65 years. I have never broken a rod on a fish. Come on, no fisherman’s actions are going to break a rod on a fish unless you are fishing for great whites or 50 pound muskies on an ultra light spinning outfit. Honestly, I still use some rods that are over 30 years old and guess what, they still catch fish using spinnerbaits, crank baits and plastics. Other than requiring my rods be one piece, I don’t see a lot of difference between the big names and the more budget friendly, quiet manufacturers.
High priced rods are waste of money. Will not catch more fish or make fish taste better. Lmfao. Most time its matter of who is using said rods over rod itself
yes but walmart is a second some place on it is a defect and you dont get a the same guaranty and I'm not saying its a bad rod
5 steel ball bearing eyelet….. Hmmm…. Take everything this channel said with a pinch of salt. This AI generated no proper fact check video is misleading! I don't mind AI generated content, but false , misleading information that contradicts every other of its own video is sad.
I'm sorry what ?? Tourney Special has 5 bearing eyelet guides ??? barely one minute into the video and malarkey starts !!!
Be fishing with Falcon rods for many years. One is 30 years old, never had a rod failure. My rods cost me 70.00 each.
What about my favorite rod ? The Berkley Lighting ROD for 59.95
