How To

WALK THE DOG! // My setup on the Berkley J-Walker // BASS fishing with a spook // top water bite

In this video I wanted to show you my setup for fishing with a Spook! This is the Berkley J-Walker. It’s a great top water bait, and I show my son how to ‘walk the dog’ with this bait in this video.

A few things to keep in mind:

+ Bait is a critical component.

+ Pull the bait with your rod, not your reel.

+ Use a shorter rod

+ Use a high gear ratio reel

Check it out and let me know what you think!

  1. I have a Yorkie also and I absolutely love her with everything in me, I always had pitbulls in the past but my sister bought my Yorkie after the passing of my pitbull Tia which I loved with all my heart also so I never imagined myself with a little dog but now I can't imagine myself without her! Great video loved that he caught one

  2. Great video!! Wanted to get specs on your rod as a general guideline of a technique compatible rod for this topwater technique (probably most topwaters). Seems that 6'8" rod is a medium POWER rod with an EXTRA FAST ACTION. Is that the correct rod you advised as a good "walkin/topwater" rod? The 4.75" J-Walker weighs 2/3 of an ounce, yet the suggested weight range for that rod is 1/4 – 5/8 oz. , so I guess that small excess weight of the plug is immaterial?

  3. That was great how you were teaching how to "Walk the Dog" & the dog came to the dock with big time enthusiasm, especially when you caught the fish. I thought Rover was going to jump in after the fish! Thanks for the suggestions. Great video.

  4. Put on a couple bobber stopper straight on the braid will help it from catching the front hook I use then with all my topwater baits like that. Was great seeing you son catch the bass while practicing walking the dog!

  5. Awesome vid Edwin! And yes, perfect timing on the fish catch while training. LOL. And totally agree… You guys do not look anything alike. Ha ha Ha. It’s almost like a mini me!

  6. Edwin, thanks for the tip to add monofilament line. I have had problems using braid and getting the hooks caught in the line. Question: I know its early but does your son have thoughts about following in your footsteps? 🎣🐟
