USA Bass Fishing Team for 2028 Olympics?

Can Professional Bass Fishing make it as a sport for the 2028 Olympic Games? Is bass fishing a sport or a hobby? Recent article says that Johnny Morris, owner of Bass Pro Shops is fully behind the opportunity to take bass fishing to the Olympics and make Team USA not only the best, but the gold medal winners. Can we make bass fishing into a Olympic sport? Lets talk about this and talk who should be on the team? Which countries should compete? Why it should be a non-FFS tournament and more.

  1. I think if the Olympics were in US or Canada you might have a chance of getting on the ticket as an exhibition sport.
But I think the reality of bass fishing becoming an actual Olympic event is slim to none.

  2. Mark Fisher, a MLF invitaional angler, claims half of 2025 BPT stages will be no FFS. He claims he heard this at Icast from other BPT anglers. I looked around and could find nothing about it. Oh, and according to Wheeler's youtube take of the 2025 BPT, the Chick stage will be a split with Nickajack Res.

  3. This has nothing to do with the Olympics thing, Steve, but all American bass pros (and some Japanese) have fished the many bass lakes here in the States, countless times. So, here's what I envision… a five team event tournament, each event being 2 days, spaced a two weeks apart. The locations would be one lake each in British Columbia, the United States, Mexico, South Africa, and one lake in Japan. All this financed by B.A.S.S,, Johnny Morris, Toyota, Fox Sports, whatever airline wants the business. and whatever media company carries the broadcasts. Would Team USA come out on top? Team Japan? Am I crazy? Is this the reverie of a dreamer? You tell me.

  4. Iโ€™ve followed the PanAm Fishing Tournaments for 8 years now with Scott Martin, David Dudley, David Frittz and many others, I even have a couple of the official hats from Team USA ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ and Scott Martin has many videos of the tournaments and behind the scenes. John Cox brought Keith Carson in before he turned Pro, and most years they Won Gold, and then Canada Won Gold once. Theyโ€™ve been to South Africa and Canada and Mexico so this has been a Goal for a long while now ๐ŸŽฃ๐ŸŽฃ๐ŸŽฃ

  5. Thanks for the scoop, big guy. As much as I'd like to see it in the Olympics, I wonder how they're going to deal with being held in 'non-bassy' countries in the far future. Also, the logistics of getting bass boats to each location (if outside North America) may present some challenges, I think. Enough countries participating…I'd also be curious about. In terms of format, I think they could follow what they do for golf in the Olympics and have separate, multiple-day events for both team and individual competitions…maybe 2 -3 teams per country. Definitely no FFS imo if we want people around the world to see bass fishing as an actual 'sport' instead of a video game played outdoors (nothing against gamers)

  6. I mean if break dancing can make it I guess anything can. But I really doubt this will be considered a "team" event with coaches and be more like golf. Mostly because at the highest level (BASS/BPT) its a fully individual event. Honestly the format would likely have to be more like Hobie Worlds where depending on where they are they fish for different species simply because Bass fishing isn't everywhere. If it makes it to that level you would have to let the host country decide.

quick google search…a general fishing sport could work…a sport must be widely practiced by men in at least 75 countries and on 4 continents and by women in 40 countries and on 3 continents.

  7. Scott Martin and Rick clunn after all he is the iron house of bass fishing or even Hank Parker also would be a great choice for manager for the Olympics for the U S. A team

  8. Would watch. KVD Coach not angler cuz heโ€™s retired. Amateur fishermen. Heck yah it is a cool sport.

Wouldnโ€™t that be crazy if it makes it as an Olympic sport?

Hmmmm. Would be more interesting to me personally if it was kayaks instead of bass boats. Jus sayin.
