My Profile:
http://www.mattstefanfishing.com/
I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I’ve been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I’ve qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.
Matt, I just picked up a pompadour as I don't have something like this in my Arsenal. I like the megabass one but not for $60. The biggest complaint with those is they break and they're expensive…..
Those things work great in the peak of summer even overseas. I'm from Spain and big crawlers are my top 1 low light top water baits in the heat. My biggest topwater bass this summer was on the Deka Dodge by Raid Japan, we have caught lots of fish on the Gan Craft one too!!!
Thanks Matt. Went thru my creepy crawler faze in my late teens, caught a few but moved on. My favorite back then was the jitterbug but also moved on. I'm pretty happy with spooks, poppers, frogs and buzzbaits now.
Matt I often read the comments posted and you are one of the few host that reads them(thank you). I have picked up a couple of tips I have or will try, Have you tried any of the post you have read?
Oh yeah, I use them and they work very well!!! And absolutely very specific times for use!! Great vid thanks Matt
found this pompadore at our local sports show about 6 years ago, like you very familier with the heddon crazy crawler, I use the pompadore most of the year on my lake that is full of boat docks. I use it to fish along the edges of the docks and it does bring the fish out from them. great action off this lure a little better than the heddon.
Can you do a lake breakdown for my 100 gallon aquarium in my living room? Where do my fish go in the winter?
Brings back memories of my uncle's old tackle box! Several old wood Heddon lures in there. Matt, I also tend to talk with my hands and you doing so makes me very nervous when you start handling those trebles on the videos. When you brought out that Muskie lure I thought "Good Lord we're getting ready for an ER trip!"
Keep up the great work and good luck in FL!
the vintage crawlers bring some good money on eBay .they had great action.
Hi Matt, thank you for the info “ knowledge is power “ I like the little one by Megabass Grand Sigglet Cicada they work very nice
but today lures prices are through the roof especially the JDM baits….”Good fishing Matt”

What a great description of how and when to use these baits, I will say I have never used them but your description of this bait has me wanting to give them a go this summer, great job!!!
Love the “musky talk”. I have only used these lures for them. Will grab one this season for some Bass.
Good Luck this weekend!
I really enjoy a jackall pompadour! They work well on the grass flats on the Potomac. Are your kids into Pokémon yet? I saw on tackle warehouse that there are some top water Pokémon characters similar to the pompadour. Works If your kids are at that age, I’m sure it would be a great experience to use them!
When is a good time to use the mouse wake baits? Do you use them times like you would a buzzbait or summer months?
Hey Matt good luck on the upcoming tournament buddy I'm sure you'll do fine… What is your opinion on the heddon torpedo, since we're talking old school baits, I still fish it and I still catch 'em on it in the mid-range sized baby bass color.
Hey Matt, how credible do you think bait scents are? Is there a best bait scent?
I have never caught a good fish on a pompadour. But I have sure seen a lot of big fish follow that damn bait.
Hey Mett, when you say creeper it sounds like a musky bait which have been around a long time.
I have some jitterbugs in the regular, long, and jointed sizes. Awesome low light or no light for that matter bait. Whenever I think of a jitterbug I think middle of summer and good times.
Have you had any luck with the savage bat??
what I find interesting about that heddon crazy crawler history is that heddon actually didn't design that bait. The crazy crawler was actually made from someone else and they bought his design and even on the earlier ones they where using his hardware those are worth a good chunk of change but. I've had success on crawlers all year from prespawn to winter caught bass in low 40 degree water on a crawler at night time so I think people under utilize them or stick to one type. There is different ones that produce different sounds or silent or have a soft body or abs/wood there is so many variations tbh. Thats the main reason I think u can use them all year.
Color topwater frogs do you use I want your no
Cool video! I have never tried one but am wondering if they produce well in VERY clear water? Thanks for the great content as always.
I like throwing those tight to those are sweet
I had the original Heddon “Crazy Crawler” 1950’s/60’s model
I wonder if one of these would be good under bridges? Might look similar to a young bird that has fallen out of the nest?
Does a Jitterbug count? It seems they used to work better than they do now.
Pompadour in rivers during April when the birds are nesting near the water.. Gets the BIGS…
MATT! That thumbnail contains my FAVORITE wing bait… In the same color as well (black bone)! I use the Jr though. They produce the most violent strikes! I do change the hooks as the stock hooks are garbage. I will say that I think they're younger that that though. More like 5 years old. Those things are so noisy that the cops will get called! Awesome baits!
I've have used this lure since they first hit the market. This lure is one of the best topwater lures for night fishing. Even on nights when there is no activity on top, I will still throw this lure. I use 15 to 20 lb. mono. A slow steady retrieve is best like you said, because if you go to fast, it will roll. I would change the hooks on them also, I use Mustad Ultra Point KVD Triple Grip Treble Hook. As you can see from my profile picture, those two bass were caught on the Pompadour Jr. Thanks for the video Matt.
