Unfortunately, this is a growing trend in "the industry." All the smaller companies are getting bought up and now under several corporate umbrellas. The quality in the products declines as this happens too. Hope you get feeling better soon
Hopefully some good comes out of the acquisition. I picked up 4 red labels and really like them. I also have some of the Edge Rods by Gary Loomis which are also made in the USA.
It is sad the did the same thing to Stanley Jigs you could get custom made jigs and skirts also spinner baits its just sad how these big company are buying these smaller stores but not offering the same stuff that the store offered before they bought them its just bad

They take better hooksets and eyes don't bend over from the wind in boat going to spots on the lake. I love feeling of TFO rods but poles snap in multiple pieces when in colder weather went to guy who sells them and his excuse everytime was must of been a bad batch of poles lol

Consolidation is the American way. Fewer and fewer companies and people, control nearly every industry in our country. Expect prices to rise as monopolistic pricing takes affect.
This sucks obviously but we all, as viewers pay full price for our super expensive fishing equipment, so I can’t completely understand your feelings on this! It will be alright buddy, life goes on and you will find another way!

Feel better buddy! I'm sure Fin is enjoying the extra time home time. Just got a Blue over the winter and haven't had an opportunity to use it yet. Hopefully GSM will continue to offer both Phoenix and Virtus but time will tell. Also, the rod staff could potentially separate and do their own thing (assuming there's no "non compete" clause) similar to what the Ranger staff did. Regardless, things always seem to work out for the best so keep your chin up!
I recommend learning how to wrap rods good hobby for the winter and you'll be happier with the quality and sensitivity

Gabe I use Phenix rods exclusively and I can tell you that they are high quality rods and GSM appears to be a straightforward Company that has plans on growing brands not shrinking.

That sucks! I had TFO Temple Fork Outfitters for 13 years and when I lost them it sucked!
GSM has really bought up a lot of good companies. In the case of Yamamoto they didnt really take anything away, and added new excellent products. It sucks to lose a sponsor buy you may hit up GSM after the get everything figured out. Good people there to work with.

On a positive note. Phenix blanks are stellar. If they are truly going to start making them in the States, would be huge. Good US based competition for North Fork Composites/Loomis blanks.

Sorry to hear the news. However, I think alot of these smaller companies are seeing the writing on the wall with the economy and the recent issues in the fishing industry and are getting out while they can and make their profit off selling their company. GSM is not the bad guy necessarily. They have the $$$$ and the seller wanted to sell. Best of luck on the channel!
