UNDERWATER BASS STRIKES ON JIGS!!! + Jig Fishing Tips!!

It’s amazing how aggressive bass can be! Sometimes they inhale the jig, other times they shake it like a dog on a bone! Come underwater and check out all these amazing strikes on different styles of jigs! In the midst of it all, we’re giving up the most guarded secret in all of jig fishing… when to set the hook!

It doesn’t matter if the jig is your favorite lure or if you’ve thrown in the towel and don’t believe you’ll ever catch a bass on a jig, you can learn from this footage. Watch how some fish pick the bait up by the trailer or the skirt while others inhale it completely. Remember these images the next time you hit the water and it will be much easier to discern what your fishing are doing when you feel the “tick” in the line.

Below you’ll find links to all the jigs in the video. We’ve included our favorite sizes, colors, and trailers for each. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

  1. You're videos are amazing. How does the summer time change in the bites? Yesterday i had one on my hook i didnt feel it right away. But i did feel that heaviness. Sometimes i feel that heaviness and it seems to be a rock. Is there a way to tell if it fell behind a rock or some other object and when it's a bass?

  2. I think one of the top 5 most affective soft plastics ever made is the Yamamoto Hula Grub in Pumpkin or Motor Oil… In my 40 plus years of fishing I’ve caught most of my Fish on the Hula Grub lol I’ve even used it with just a Weedless Hook and it’s produced every time..

  3. my fish will pick it up by the claws and run out to deep water, crawfish scent has made some difference for them to take it all the way down

  4. Ive always been hesitant in using certain baits and i know im missing out. Jigs, crankbaits and lipless baits have always been a struggle of mine. I have plenty of confidence baits like plastic worms, top water and spinnerbaits but more is to be desired. These jig tips are definitely helpful in boosting my confidence in trying the baits the proper way. Ive been guilty of using the wrong gear, wrong line, and wrong location but if i can take one wrong out of my game then my chances are going up. Thanks for the tips as always!

  5. When is the best time of year to fish these? I’ve tried fishing jigs before but I have never caught a fish on them. Will they work good around lily pads or am I better off hopping them in weed beds?

  6. Caught 2 and missed 2 today, on the football. Im 99% smallmouth so the 2 I missed where just like that I think. The 2 I got where bites that felt like normal bite except softer, and the 2 I missed where bate gets Hammered and I swing and miss, its hard to remember, that wait a few seconds to set the hook whenever your adrenaline is jacked! As Always love the underwater footage, I feel like I learn something every time I watch it. Thanks, And hope everything is great Matt and CeCe!

  7. I think i would feel the bite on the second slurp when they got the jig completely in their mouth. The first slurp gets the bait only about halfway in. It’s the second one where you set the hook.

  8. Very interesting tips definitely going to be more patient in my majority smallie lakes up here in the north πŸ˜‚ and I always thought the jig was too big for them to swallow meanwhile they are just trying to kill the bait! Awesome tips this is why you guys are amazing love u guys! πŸ‘πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

  9. Hey guys if I wanted to add a shimano reel to a 7' medium poison adrena for an all around casting rod what should I get? I can probably go up to $250. Also I need to get a cranking set up and can maybe go up to $500 for the combo and would like to keep it shimano. Another note I fish central FL. If its not to much qhat size line should I use? Thanks guys for everything you guys are the best.

  10. Being a beginner fisherman, I was having problems setting the hook. I've learned quickly lol. With this video it's making more sense. Thanks Tim, keep the videos coming. I've learned a lot on your tips and expert advice.

  11. Tim, does it seem like your guys views have been down lately? I just realized YouTube has been burying your videos and flooding my feed with new fishing content. I know the algorithms can act funny on here, so hopefully all is good with the channel.

  12. Nice vid … here is a trick I learned 10 years ago while fishing Table Rock lake when I drove an hour and forgot my tackle box. I paddled out to a bass boat and met one of the guides, he was kind enough to give me some skirtless jigs and hula grubs. He taught me to trim the claws on them. I never had faith in jigs but I caught a ton of fish. After watching this vid, it now makes perfect sense. Another tip is trimming the weed guard to the hook.
