The underspin is a lure every bass fisherman should own! When bass are chasing smaller baitfish, an underspin paired with a swimbait outfishes virtually every other lure. Today we’re showing you the differences between these heads, and when you should be fishing each style.
With all the different swimbaits and underspins on the market, how do you know which models to use? Matt breaks them down into categories and gives you the best of the best for each situation. By the time you reach the end of this video you’ll know exactly when to reach for a full size option, or when the little 2.8 keitech is your best bet.
Below you’ll find links to all the baits and heads in the video. We’ve also included some of our favorite rod and reel combos for this technique, including a great budget option. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

I am so happy that I stumbled across Tactical Bassin! I’ve been a subscriber for over 5 years now and the knowledge I’ve gained from Matt and Tim is unmeasurable! I can literally go to any body of water in the country and fish with confidence. I’ll be heading out to Tennessee in a couple of weeks… Bass Beware 🎣
I have about 6 underspins and I thought that I had a lot! hahahahah
I never seen a bait fish w 4 eyes
YOU HELD OUT LONGER THAN I COULD HAVE BEFORE TRYING FOR A BITE.
Always Luv'd throwing a spinner bait ,,,, so Thank You for breaking down the Under Spin ….. i'm gonna add a few to the collection of stuff i want just because of the …. ooooo squirrel factor lol
Matt. Love your videos. Always good information. TacticalBassin is the one to watch!
Awesome video Matt. What are your thoughts on a traditional split tail fluke as a trailer to the underspin instead of a paddle tail swimbait?
I think I'm going to apply this to the salt stripers up here in the NE. awesome tips as always can't wait to try it.
Morning Matt. Another great video for fine tuning our swimbait ratio, thanks. Also noticed the change for you and Tim for your bow radars. Can you describe and why please?
damn dude, stuff it took us years to work out youre giving away to the unschooled masses.
You are a “Pro” Matt! Thanks for your time.
I sure hope you eventually get rid of your northern accent now living in tbe south. 👍
Thanks for another great informative video, in a previous swimbait video you mentioned slightly bending the hook up on the Flashy Swimmer, that tremendously helped me land more fish which had been a real problem before that tweak.
I won a club tourney on Wheeler on the Flashy Swimmer, definitely an excellent bait for many situations!
I've literally caught a thousand more bass watching you guys over the years
i know it works even a bare swimbait in cold weather or water i've caught many bass slow rolling the swimbait with and without the blade in nov dec i learned from matt in videos from yrs past
Underspins are some of the most underrated baits – put up a spinnerbait vid and it kills it, drop some sneaky underspin wisdom and nadda.
The 7 people that disliked this video probably reel their lure all the way to the guide & get their picture taken holding a bass with fish grippers.
I got a friend who charters on Lake Ontario(midway) and your advice had him askin me whata u using? After about the 5th bass lol Albeit he fishes mostly for salmon in salmon River and obv lake trout but still lol he knows bass too! Thank you Matt and Tim 👍
I like the links you can watch see something you like pause the video go to tackle warehouse put it in your cart come back to video watch see something else repeat step one 🤣 end of video go to your cart and checkout!
It’s big jig and craw season
🔥🔥🔥LETS GO BRANDON🔥🔥🔥
The problem I have with Keitech's is that the paddle tail gets stuck on the hook way too often, anyone got a fix for this, maybe cut the body down a little more?
Do you not like warbaits Underspin? I have never got bent out on a warbaits it gives me confidence.
Great video. I’m new to the underspin game so I’d like to know what really sets it apart from a Spinnerbait
LOL, I used underspins for more years than Matt and Tim have been alive, they work!
Matt, great info. Thanks
Thanks Matt. Great tips on the under spin. They will flat catch them.
Been throwing underspins for the past 2 years from your videos and caught good small mouth and largemouth on it. This year I started throwing the screw head while pre fishing for a tournament, we were in between an island and the shore and saw the water moving like there was heavy current in a lake. Throw a screw head and a 2.8 keitech out there and within 2 reel turns I hook up on a big smallie and marked a nice school and had insane confidence ever since
I just think if your hoofing it on the banks without knowing where the fish are and throwing small underspins would be slightly difficult.
Gotta love that underspin! Smashed some fatties my last trip on them!
