Tournament Day SAVED: One Clarks Hill SPOTTED BASS Prevents a Tournament FLOP

Apologies for the wind noise! It was a blustery one out there!

The Briercreek Bassmasters took on another scorcher of a day on Clarks Hill for the August club tournament. My plan was to continue improving my offshore skills. To get comfortable fishing offshore using my forward facing sonar in a tournament, I figured I needed to actually do it during a tournament.

For those of you who keep up with the tournament bass fishing world, this tournament tactic is a hot topic. Granted, I don’t use multiple FFS transducers, and I don’t have 80 inches of screens on my boat. While I don’t think I agree with a complete ban of forward facing sonar, I think some middle ground and compromise is in order. I plan to stick to my one FFS transducer and continue improving my skills with it.

I was proud of myself for dedicating a whole tournament to one technique. It’s been a long time since I’ve done that. It wasn’t the winning pattern, or at least I wasn’t on the winning fish. Lucky for me, that big spot really prevent my bag from really being tiny. I’ll learn to be more effective and efficient with it as I spend more time doing it. This is true for any techniques in bass fishing. Don’t be afraid to try new things and struggle at first! We’ve all been there, but you can’t get better at something if you don’t start!

I will continue scoping more. Like it or not, it’s something I have to be effective with to move on to the next level of tournament fishing. It seems like there will be tournaments that scoping plays and tournaments where it doesn’t. I think that’s how it should be!

Hopefully you enjoy the video seeing me do something I’m not very comfortable with. I have some great footage coming up soon from Lake Lanier and Lake Allatoona with my buddy, Cameron. Stay tuned! A lot of bass on the way!
