Touring Anglers Association FINALS on Lake Lanier

The Touring Angler Association held it’s first bass fishing tournament on Lake Lanier. It is the world’s largest pot fishing tournament with little overhead and no live streaming. The first tournament was a success because of the no FFS, no practice and other things they put into place for the bass fishing tournament and 47 anglers put up $5k to be included in the first event. Will they hold more? What were some of the pros and cons to this event? Congrats to Chris Johnston for winning the first event and lets hope for more events in the future.

  1. This FFS vs traditional tournament format will never be a true judgement in fishing. The tournaments would have to be held at the same time and on the same lake. Different styles and skill sets needed in both formats.

  2. I watched all episodes. Randy did not show up because he knew he didn’t have a chance of winning, talk is cheap Randy. Randy was not going to risk $5000 dollars to not cash a check. This tour should be called the LOCAL HAMMERS TOUR, Randy knew he was not a hammer. Tournament fishing is a gamble. The ELITE pros did not show up due to the small payouts. It was better too stay home with thei r families and save $5000 dollars. Elites will take a gamble at $3000,000 and payouts to 50th place. It is all about the Benjamin’s. Unfortunately this tour will not make it. Payouts will be less and entry fees will be higher. It takes money to make money. The bag of fish were small, we want to see big fish caught and big bags, something we did not see. 👀👀👀

  3. I could see a US vs. Canada tournament where its in March Madness bracket format – where a US guy goes up against a Canadian guy…most fish advances. Also on TAA's leaderboard I would have liked to been able to click on a guy's name and have a link go to where (if) they are streaming to watch the action. I watched Joey while I could – I didn't look for everyone though. I agree – F12 should get a few minutes to tell us what they used to catch 'em. It helps some of the non BASS/MLF guys to develop a personality. But decent start for E1

  4. Seems like no matter what’s being done you’re going to get people complaining. I’m neither for nor against FFS and really think this type tournament is great . Bed fishing is just part of the game ( kinda like FFS ) I did see a comment that said do 2 days with and 2 days without . That’s a great idea and would love to see that happen 🍻

  5. Thanks for the update on this event. It's too bad they only had 47 anglers for this first one. From a business standpoint, I think they might do better to lower entry fees from $5k down to $4k, with payouts going down to $200k (instead of $300k) to the winner. Considering regular BASS Elite events pay only around $100k for first place, I think this would attract more local/regional anglers while still having a big enough payout for seasoned touring pros. I believe Randy mentioned entry fees as the reason why he's not fishing these events.

  6. What’s with disrespect for the guys that know how to catch bass off beds? Unless you don’t bass fish for half the year you catch fish off beds, you just aren’t good at it.

  7. Greats observations! Thanks for the Fish North Georgia shout out! If folks only knew how much time and effort it takes to set all the media equipment up! lol Things got to going fast and everyone had to work with the time we had and the time the anglers had. Several had to head to other events and were pressed for time! It’s only going to improve as it grows!

  8. Thanks again for the shoutouts. I’m with Fish North Georgia. The “fat” guy in the middle doing most of the talking. It was a great event and the kinks will get worked out across the board. Kudos to you for giving it some of your time! We appreciate it very much. Allen has big plans to make these events better and of course, larger!

  9. Would have loved to see a live feed of this event but glad it was a success. I still don't understand why B.A.S.S. has to make it a zero sum game. Why not have a BASS tournament where FFS can be used on two of the four days and make both sides of the camp see fishing the way they would like. Wait….I do know why they won't. Garmin sponsorship money. What a shame. As far as the bed fishing deal. That is a complete strawman thrown up by the FFS guys. BASS has been bed fishing at tournaments for decades now and nobody complained until the FFS started using it as a an argument to say FFS was the same thing. It isn't and it's just a bad argument.

  10. Steve I think you are 💯 on point with what your pros and cons are and I hope they see this and make some of them changes to make this better and better, definitely with video or streaming. Take it easy Steve and I catch up with you when you come back on buddy 🍻
