I personally fish with a spinning reel on a 7 foot Shakespeare Ugly Stik rod. I use nanofil line on it running the clear mist colored line. In the water it is hard to see. They also have a green line. Never owned a baitcaster setup. I think I am running a 17 lb test at .25mm diameter. I get the longest casts I have ever gotten with it. A bit tricky to work with as you can't use standard knots and you need to make sure when you tighten that knot you dip the line in water so it does not cook itself. Fishing in a kayak, that is fairly easy. It is called the nanofil knot I guess. I use a variation on it where I double up the line on itself before I tie the knot up. This puts two loops through the eye to tighten down onto instead of just one.
