Top 5 Baits For June Bass Fishing!

June is amazing! There are TWO groups of bass now and you need to approach them differently! June brings a huge shift in bass behavior as some fish turn back toward the shallows and others go out to deep water. If you want to catch fish in June you need to understand the differences between the groups and which baits to target them with.

We dug through our tackle and came up with the top 5 (okay, maybe its more like 10) baits that really shine this time of year. When fishing shallow we focus on topwater and Texas rigs but when we go deep its a completely different list. Pay close attention to when Tim relies on each style of lure so you’re not throwing them at the wrong group of fish. June is amazing as fish group back up, much like the prespawn, and you can catch a lot of them in a short amount of time if you know what to use.

Below you’ll find links to the exact baits discussed in the video. We’ve included our favorite sizes and colors for each, as well as some of the gear we use to fish them. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

  1. Hi guys. What would be your take on dragging a fluke type swim bait on the bottom with a football wobble head jig. I’m trying to figure out a slightly different presentation for use on a small heavily fished county lake in middle TN. Thanks for any thoughts.

  2. Top 5 are anything that doesn't cost you money. No offense, but it's time we start boycotting the fishing industry. The prices are ridiculous. Just say after me….
I will not purchase any more fishing stuff. I was bringing my kids up to fish. Now we are done with that.

  3. Hard bodied plastic frog poppers or Rebel 3”magnum Poppers seem to work well in smaller bass ponds and cull out smaller bites also. Almost always around cover as he says. Open water bites will be rare.

  4. Hi Tim, great video as always. I have two questions:
Walking baits do you recommend a snap and mono leader?
What would your rod Selection be for the weedless swimbait? Would you use the same rod for the Matt Allen swimbait head combo?
Thanks a lot Tim. Always able to apply your info to my northern lakes!

  5. Could you do another night fishing video soon? As it's warming up my brother and I have a night tournament series coming up in some highlands resevoirs and we both watch your videos a lot

  6. Just caught my PB 6.86 lb LMB with pro blue red kietech 4.3 with white matt Allen head throwing deep under over hanging trees all the way to bank and retrieved with slight pause every 10 reel turns. I was so pumped I yelled so loud and didn’t get another bite for an hour. Lol but so worth it. I would’ve never caught that caliber of fish w/o this channel. Thank you so very very much Tim And Matt. G.B.🍊

  7. I’m not sure if it’s meant for it, but the Zman Goat will act like a flappin frog when rigged weightless.

Thanks for the expert info! I kinda thought a senko would be one of them.

  8. Thanks for the tips.
Question. Just recently moved to a new city and it has this lake where there are no bait fish, havent seen any at all. Its stocked with trout and apparently theres bass in it. Do i just imitate trout or use creature baits?

  9. Thanks for making these amazing videos Tim. I've been having trouble catching bass but this year I visited a new location and got bites with the worm baits you recommended. I kept missing the hook, but I remember your underwater footage of how bass take worms sometimes, gave it a little time, and wham. Had a great day, thanks so much!

Edit: I was using a shaky head and a weightless senko, both texas rigged.
