Top 5 Baits For Early Spring Bass Fishing! ( How To Fish Them )

These baits catch giant bass every Spring! If you learn how to use them to cover water and locate feeding bass, your catch rate will sky rocket as we enter the prespawn. Consider this different approach this year and you’ll begin to specifically target the bigger bass you’ve dreamt of catching.

Many anglers make the mistake of fishing slowly in the Spring. As bass begin to move, anglers often lack the confidence to pursue them and instead settle for finesse fishing familiar areas. If your goal is to catch a giant bass this Spring your success hinges on your willingness to move. If you missed our previous video go back and watch it again to understand how and why the bass are moving. Once you’re confident in their movements quickly cover likely areas until you find bass that are actively feeding.

The combination of glide baits (amazing drawing power, crankbaits, jerkbaits, and A-rigs (drawing reaction strikes), and the finesse underspin (still gets bit, even when the going gets tough) will cover every circumstance you’ll face in the Spring. Below is a breakdown of our favorite baits for this time of year as well as our confidence colors in each category.

  1. other than professional fishermen, do people really use different rods for different baits? like i use whatever rod i pull out first and throw whatever bait on there. i feel like most people dont have the time or money to have a rod for every type of bait

  2. Damn I was going about it all wrong I switched to a jerk bait and got hammered didn’t get a giant but they weren’t small either. Love the vids man really helping me with this Oklahoma weather.

  3. You know the most amazing thing I found about this video was this guy's ability to move his hands around these baits so quickly and not catch a treble hook in a finger. If I tried handling them like this I'd be in the emergency room. LOL!! Props dude! Subscribed!

  4. Just wanna say thanks. Caught a bass on the s waver 168. Worked it exactly how you said. It followed it all the way to shore and smacked it right at my feet. Im in illinois so i worked it slow with 2 twitches every 4-5 reels. Just got the glide bait 2 days ago. I got the lite trout color as well. You were right again. That color brings the fish in!!!! Thanks again guys. Keep on grinding!!!

  5. just stumbled across your channel, and now I'm definitely subscribing. This is one of the few fishing channels were it isn't clickbait or drawn out but genuine passion advice for new and experienced anglers alike. Keep it up 💪

  6. Matt, im a bank fisherman. I wud like to try throwing that s waver 168 glide bait. (If that is possible for bank fisherman?) But i only own Zodias 7' MH casting rod. Is there a budget rod u could recommend and reel. And what gear ratio would i want to buy for the reel.
Thx if u have time to answer my question.

  7. Thanks for the info I've live in Akron Ohio and fish s lake that had no map but I know this lake well at the boat dock there deep water grass and on the other end there a walk on dock with deep water the keithtec is my go to bait I've love it the tip you just gave me will help me out this spring

  8. Square bill crankbait in Blue Gil color is already getting it done in East Texas. Oddly the craw color has not worked yet which is not normal. I think the hogs just have not moved up yet. It is coming…a week or two away tops.

  9. Need to get some s-wavers asap. There's a pond I fish that is mainly a trout pond but there is GIANT BASS in broke my p.b. twice in a 2 day period couple years ago fishing a whopper plopper. I know those bass havent seen a s-waver people really don't use them where im at. Breaking my p.b this year

  10. Awesome video as usual Matt!! You guys have gotten me back into Bass fishing after a long long time. I'm a bank fisherman on Long Island. Can you make a video or 2 for us who don't have boats? Trying to learn my cranks, jerks, and swimbaits. I've bought so many of your recommendations, I can't wait to catch my PB. If you could help it'd be awesome. Thanks!!!

  11. Jack Hammers have gotten it done for me in high 40° water. I suppose you could use the Hammer in place of the Underspin in "noisier conditions". When your surroundings are loud and you want a smaller, flashy presentation but a little more noise…Jack Hammer is where it's at. Also paired up with a 3.8" Keitech.

  12. As for the underspin, I'm with you there, but with a slight variation. I'm a fan of the Keitech 3.8" Bluegill Flash, paired up with a Thunderspin with a white head.

  13. Matt on the reaper hoodie. I'm a 220 lb 6.2 guy with wide shoulders. I'm trying to figure out if I should get the X large or XX large. Any help would be great.
Also, thank you both for all your fishing tips. I've definitely improve my techniques by watching you guys and become a better bass fisherman.
    👍😁👍

  14. What's the best lures for California Bass fishing? I see you say they work at most or all parts but what's good for just California cus I've noticed they normally strike at minnow/shad looking lures whether it's a swimbait plastic or hard..or buzzbait/chatter/spinner jerkbait. ECT but what's ur input into California Bass fishing? I've started Bass fishing for a bit now and I need info on just Cali Bassin.

  15. Video idea: I would love if you made a video showcasing all the baitcasting reels in your arsenal where you explain which reel you use for specific techniques and why

  16. Hi just want to thank you guys for all the valuable information you give. I live in california and just caught my PB on a football jig after watching your jig video then beat that pb right after throwing a RED crank bait. Just doing what I learned from tactical bassin. I wanted to ask if these techniques and mindsets go for striped bass as well?
