Top 5 Baits For December Bass Fishing!

December is cold but the bass are BIG! If you’re ready to catch a giant bass, it’s time to go fishing! We typically catch less fish in December but the bites you do get are bigger and you’ll have a shot at the fish of a lifetime! Here are the baits we rely on to get bit during the cold month of December…

There are two very different approaches to bass fishing in December. Many anglers turn to finesse presentations and slow retrieves to catch lethargic bass. This can be very effective but it’s also monotonous. This Winter, try focusing on baits that get reaction strikes, despite the cold, and you’ll be surprised by the results. No matter what you choose, December gives you a great opportunity to catch a giant bass!

Below you’ll find links to the exact baits, in the exact colors and sizes that we trust to catch these fish. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item. We’ve also included several of the key rod and reel combos we use to consistently catch fish with these presentations.

  1. That 7'5 heavy Zodias- besides A-rig, what else would you throw on that? How about 6" swimbaits like a Magdraft Freestyle? Swimbaits with belly-weighted hooks?

  2. Please help: Some of my treble hooks on my fishing lures are starting to rust. The crazy thing is that they are brand new and have never been in water. What is even crazier is that I have them in Flambeau Zerust tackle boxes that are less than a year old. Can anyone explain this please?

  3. Man up here in idaho i struggle so much in winter. It hurts. I only have a good fishing kayak. . With not good electronics. And i have a very difficult time getting on them from shore because the points are on the opposite side of lake. Any thoughts? Thanks guys!

  4. speed cranking could you just throw a rof 16 hudd and burn it I've done it a couple times dead winter and fish hammer it not sure if you guys ever made a video like that

  5. If you want to catch bass right now and your area is too cold like where I live. Just come to Florida it's what I did and I landed peacock bass tarpon and other species in a time span of a few hours today. None of this nonsense of using top 5 baits top 2 baits this and that. Toss a hair jig and catch everything.

  6. I love the fact your powerfishing when it's cold! I wish we could throw slow down only when I have too.😅Matt theres guys in New England that catch their biggest fish on Wakebaits when there's snow on the ground.

  7. Yeah man my favorite color jig this time of year is a version of a pb&j or a green pumpkin purple unless ive caught a few thats puked up crawfish or if i see pinchers hanging out their throat then a pumpkin orange or Alabama craw color is the ticket but i always start with a bait with some purple in it pretty much all year and fine tune throughout the day.
