Top 5 Baits For April Bass Fishing!

Bass fishing is at its peak in April! There is no better time to get on the water and catch a bunch of fish. You can typically find fish in all 3 stages of the spawn and it doesn’t take a keen understanding of fish movement to predict where they’ll be. Head for the shallows with this short list of baits and you’re bound to catch a few fish!

Bass can still be caught on reaction baits, but you can also slow down and catch them on soft plastics. Whatever style you prefer, there will be bass to catch. When it comes to reaction baits, we put a lot of emphasis on standing out from the crowd. We’re using baits with flash, vibration, and sound to get the bass’ attention. When it comes to soft baits, its all about a natural presentation. We find that baits with a touch of blue in them will often out-produce the others.

Below you’ll find links to the exact baits Matt discussed in the video, including our favorite sizes and colors. We’ve also included some of the gear we use to fish these baits effectively. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

  1. I line up on a shoal bank yesterday where I saw a bait fish flicker on the surface.. about 3 feet up on flat went into the creek channel and then the other side was the 45 shoal bank… skinnier water.. could cast from bank to bank… but I lined up and I couldn’t figure out to throw a crank a slow rolled wobble head, blade bait, spinner bait… I threw everything but the kitchen sink.. even tried topwater. Never thrown a topwater this early…I saw great temps but visibility is like 6 inches in a body of water that is normally 15 feet I can’t get bit right now for the life of me.. about to sell my boat haha

  2. Newer fisherman and this video is fantastic. Easy to follow, love the detailed descriptions and explanations as to WHY you’re using what you’re using. Thanks so much!

  3. April is not the month if you live in Ontario, Canada … still ice on the lakes, that AND bass season does NOT open till June

  4. Backlashed on a cast with the LC LV500 and the knot to the clip failed. $15 thrown away. 🙁 FIsh weren't biting it anway. Do you remove the front facing hook on the forward treble when you do a bounce the bottom retrieve? Every cast I did get to make came back with grass or gunk on that one.

  5. I fish an impoundment lake in North Georgia that has only large mouth (no spotted bass) that is managed by natural resource department. It is a slightly difficult lake to fish, mostly clearer water, loaded with all size shad, with big bass, crappie and even some stocked walleye.
What are some good recommendations for getting them to bite better?

  6. I’m still pretty new to bass fishing but just caught my new PB last weekend on a green pumpkin senko whacky rigged! No boat so I was fishing the rocky bank and caught it in the mid afternoon. Solid 5 pounder or so, but man I was hyped like it was 10 😂

  7. How many times can you describe the same techniques without loosing your mind figure Matt’s been doing this for the past 12 years talking to himself out in the middle of no where lol that’s a rap

  8. All day everyday with the green pumpkin wacky. I am going to try the shad w/ spinner tomorrow because the fish I have seen been busting the shore . Tight lines from Texas. 👍

  9. Hey Matt would you do a video on full moon phases I’m sure as you know April is a fast month and can be even faster of a month if the full moon hits early I would really appreciate it and thanks for everything you and Tim do for the fishing industry

  10. i have a bit of a off topic question.. what is your guys take on googan plastics/hard baits? really like to see what you think? they have been good for me.
