“Tinkie Rig” & Wacky Rig Bass Fishing with new K&J Finesse Rings

Finesse Rings for Finesse Baits! This video shows how to rig and catch fish with the new K&J Finesse Ring and the Wacky RIG’R system.

I dubbed the small, nose-hooked rig the “Tinkie Rig”.

Equipment used features a Wally Marshall (aka ‘dock demon’) spinning rod, YUM Meathead lures, a BPS Flickin’ Shimmy and Bear Paws custom Hippie Sticks and Grubs.

Enjoy the show!

  1. Good question. The Wacky RIG'R rings (in all three sizes) are designed to help prevent the loss of whatever soft plastic you are using in the 'wacky' style. Fish are notorious for yanking soft plastics off of hooks so the more you save your baits, the less costly it is to fish with soft plastics (many of which are pretty expensive). I named this rig the Tinkie Rig because it is a finesse (small) rig. Tinkie is our small Papillon, about 6 lb.

  2. i am lost winkiedoodles What does the black ring do i was lost when i was watching on what its purpose but i will tell you this those were some pretty nice fish there, but my question was what was the purpose for the black ring???? i am sorry for not understanding…. Good Fishing

  3. Glad you liked the video! The first "dock demon" rod and reel was a Lew's Wally Marshall 5'6" light action rod and a Quantum Incite reel. The second was a decent Quantum combo (don't know what kind because I gave it to my sister). The lures were a Zoom 'meat head', Bass Pro "Shimmy Stick", a 3" Bear paws Slick Stick (custom) and a 3" Bear Paws Grub. If I recall this was quite early in the spring so finesse lures and equipment worked pretty good. In warm water, heavier tackle works better.

  4. Actually, it is a very good question. The hooks with the plastic weed guard were Gamakatsu weedless circle hooks. The circle hooks with the metal weed guard were Owner hooks. I prefer the plastic weed guard (Gamakatsu) brand. Best wishes!

  5. Thanks! Most of us have assortments of finesse style baits and the tiny rings made the rig fun. Now that the larger bass are active I'll switch to a heavier rig (instead of 6 lb test) if I rig finesse worms during the summer. Best wishes and glad you liked the show. Don

  6. Well, that's quite the coincidence to get two packs of finesse stick baits! I'll look forward to seeing what brand and color they are. I'm also planning to revisit that pond with both a Tinkie and a Winkie rig shortly. It was just too early in the season during this video and the water was still very cold. The bigger bass will be up shallow shortly. Best wishes, Don

  7. Thanks, Darren, glad you enjoyed the show. For those little baits I was using both Gamakatsu and VMC circle hooks in size 1/0 or 1 if I recall. My favorites were the Gammys with the plastic weed guard. I use a larger size 2, 2/0 or maybe even 3/0 when rigging larger Senko style stick baits.

  8. Thanks, Red Dog! I'll be using the RIG'R tools with the L, S, and finesse rings quite a bit as the year goes on; the water is still very cool hereabouts. BTW, you didn't make a mistake calling the rig a Winkie Rig in your video. The Winkie Rig is what I call the setup I put on larger stick baits; the Tinkie Rig is what I'm calling the set up I'm putting on smaller finesse baits. Reason: Winkie is our larger male papillon; Tinkie is the little female one. 🙂

  9. Greg, we've had about 3 days of rains and you know what that means. It has been over a month since I caught a single crappie…..yuk!
On the positive side, every pond around is totally full and that will be good for the spawn and help add more food supply for the fish. Best wishes. Don

  10. yeah I guess there is a big difference between that n pitching. went back out yesterday, same thing but some bigger bluegill, caught 4 bass and no perch.. waiting to hear if I get mandated to work tomorrow, if not going to NY n hopefully have time to fish, I would rather work though n go memorial day w/e with no worries, stay longer n hopefully fish with Bill! anyway's, hope to see a new one from ya soon, tight line's n wet net's bud!-

  11. Thanks, Brian. Nothing much really happening on soft plastics (yet) due to the crazy weather. Yes, I've heard TR crappie are biting pretty well, as are the bass. Hope to find out this weekend. And, correct, nothing happening at Fellows. I got my sticker and fished for several hours yesterday and only saw 2-3 fish on the depth finder. Nobody was catching anything; primarily because the water is still only 60 degrees. As soon as it warms up it will be much better.

  12. Thanks, Greg. Actually, it isn't pitching. It is called 'shooting' and involves pulling the lure (normally a crappie jig) back kind of like a bow and arrow and then shooting it on a low trajectory, often skipping it back under boat docks. In this case, it worked to get the rig back under the willow branches. I expect a lot more fish up under there as the water warms up. Great fishing report; lots of gills!

  13. Don, as always a great video. I hit big cedar a week ago on table rock. Hooked 2 keeper Bass and lost a 3rd that would have kept. As far as catching crappie on table rock, I got skunked. Boat in the slip next to me came in with a stringer full of crappie mid day, told me they went dock to dock and were dock shooting. Heat of the day made them chill in the shade. Fellows lake so far doesn't have anything biting yet. Darn mother nature kind of screwed up the fish this year. Tight lines good buddy!

  14. John, I, too, saw several "Mr. Crappie" dock shooting videos and about fainted when I was in a Lew's outlet store here and Wally Marshall rods. The sales associate casually said "oh yes, Wally Marshall was here a day or so ago; you missed him…" Water temps are still unseasonably cool – in the 50s (quite depressing). Not real good for soft plastics yet.
I will be traveling to some ponds in a couple of weeks where the Lunker Lizards (and maybe even some mice) should work well! Don
