My Profile:

I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I’ve been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I’ve qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.

  1. Hi Matt, Brian from UK again. This is right up my street. Soft plastic fishing is growing in popularity over here for perch, pike and chub. I bank fish mainly for perch on typical narrow shallow UK canals. My favoured approach is to walk along flipping the far bank cover. The biggest difference between US and UK SP flipping has always been that we have to approach from the micro finesse to finesse sizes as our perch are generally smaller than the bass. Typically up to 3lb only very occasionally bigger. You are now talking about using the weights and lure sizes that are standard to large for us. It’s why ultralight and BFS fishing is also very popular here. Great insight that your pro circuits are now using smaller and lighter baits and presentations!

  2. Hey Matt, how are you doing. So I always travel to La Crosse for work it’s usually one or two day job. I’ve been thinking of taking my fishing rod with me, where are some good spots to bank fish from close to the airport. Thanks for all the content you provide us and the tips tricks we appreciate it all.

  3. So, one night tournament, I was hammering on a uv speed craw. I ran down to the last 1 , and they quit biting. So an hr goes by, finally a bite, sauger tore my last one ones pinchers off but no bass would hit it. So I didn't realize cast put a craw, no claws boom 3 lb smallie. I grab a rippped craw WITH pinchers, nothing another 30 mins get a bluegill rips my claws off. I'm like, o well, 35 minutes left…..
Cast out a few later, 4lb largemouth! Grab a different color speed craw, nothing. Put the 1 with no pinchers n catch another nice smallie. Ended up winning the night tournament, here they wanted an "easy meal" craw with no claws, I believe lol

  4. Interesting topic, a few weeks ago I was flipping a grass flat and fishing 4 differnet rigs. The 3" pitch boss on a tokyo rig caught 80% of the fish. At first I thought it was the Tokyo rig but I'm sure the 3" bait was the deal. Thanks for the great content!

  5. I can see that, ive always been a s.aller bait guy. I've been looking for 3-inch Pit Bosses all summer. Haven't seen any yet now I know you can order them. I put myself on a tackle diet the last few months. I'll pick up a thing or two if I'm out but I am not been ordering large quantities of basis to try to save money towards the boat that I want. And that Erie darter could be an amazing Ned rig

  6. Its funny when i first started fishing i used to catch em on all kindsa different baits. Now honestly if the water is above 60 im just throwing topwater ALL day lol. If theres a topwater bite goin on somewhere ima find it lol. Idc if people catch more fish than me theres just something about watching em eat a spook or frog lol 😂😂 ill throw that mf all day just for 1 bite😂😂

  7. Might look into trout baits as well. I've got some inch and a half craws and helligamit that work at times, when that time is right. Magnum baits are the same thing. I keep a grand mix on the boat at all times. I'd like to think I'm ready for anything at any time. I know I'm a tackle junkie!!! Open the storage on the boat and you think your looking in a pros boat. It's all about what to throw what & when. Don't drink, dont smoke and that money can go into fishing equipment.

  8. This drives me crazy. All my life I trout fished and panfished. I really started bass fishing 7 years ago because I wanted to fish the large and larger artificials. Now the trend is going to trout baits. So I guess I have to go back to my UL trout rod now also
