This Lake Has GIANTS (Thursday Nighter)

I live 8 miles from Lake Bridgeport and I hadn’t put a boat on it in over three years. So when I was invited to the Thursday night tournament, I went. Same working man’s format, different night, brand new lake for this series.

Bridgeport is not Eagle Mountain and it’s not Ray Roberts. It’s rocky, there isn’t much brush, the lake was almost five feet low, and the feels-like temperature was 103 degrees. But there are giants living in it. I caught a nine pounder off one brush pile out here years ago, back when I had long hair, and I went right back to that same brush pile to see if it still held fish.

It did. And so did the urchin.

The Coike is the hot ticket for 2026 and it earned it tonight. A giant followed my 5″ Unloaded Swimbait all the way up, showed me exactly where she was living, and I threw the urchin right in on her head. That’s the whole deal with that bait. It doesn’t imitate anything. It just moves water, and bass decide it’s alive.

We also got one cranking a deep diving crankbait on that same old brush pile, caught a crappie on a Big Larry Spoon, and talked through why lure choice matters more than spot choice once the sun goes down and everything gets dark. Same adjustment I had to make at the Pasquotank River.

I only weighed two fish and couldn’t put a limit together, but I took big bass and donated money back.
