  1. Time to break out some older lures. Black Jitterbug works well, as well as the Heddon Crazy Crawler and Baby Torpedo. You might want to upgrade/upsize the hooks. And of course a classic Popper gets it done too. Years back there was a hatch and we were catching 30-40 pound grass Carp.

Alsp fun for those that Fly Fish.

  2. That fishery I was referring to in Ohio I was fishing a lot during that cicada hatch was extremely clear, 15' vis on a bad day. I would watch bass swim up from a distance come right up to them buzzing around & turn & go right back. I was surprised every time! I haven't seen any difference with stained water either. We have ton of cicadas here in southern SC right now, it's been at least 3 weeks . My top water bite hasn't gotten any better than usual. I thought they would have made a big difference & turn the top water bite of fire but this is my second huge hatch from north to south, clear to stained water. Unfortunately haven't seen any difference. No matter, I fish on as usual…

  3. Interesting. The cicada hatch is going on in my hometown but here in the mountains there is nothing so far. Not sure I want them but if they do show up I’m going to fish a black popper. On a side note, cicadas attract copperheads.

  4. I moved down to southern SC little over 2 years ago, this is my 3rd spring. The last summer I was in southwest Ohio before we moved south. We had a massive cicada hatch that was significantly higher #'s than I'm seeing down here. We have a ton here now. That summer in Ohio you couldn't see the bark on the base of our old growths trees! I had the shovel the carcases away from base of our tree's! I didn't see any better top water bite up there at that time? I thought there would be but it was the same…. I even took bunch of cicadas & threw them on a hook & let them buzz around on top of the water & didn't get as many bites as I thought. Even watched lot of bass swim up check them out & pass them up! I'm curious if it will be any different this time down here? I'll stick with my zmans popping frogz. They get me ton of bites with or without the cicadas!

  5. For sure focused on the cicada hatch up in Illinois its bananas. Sent you a custom painted cicada through ole John Dalton. If you haven't gotten it yet I'm sure you will soon. This is going to be a blast.
