My Profile:
http://www.mattstefanfishing.com/
I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I’ve been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I’ve qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.
Wacky rigging a worm on a drop shot setup has worked very well for me. From 3" to 6" worms of all brands and kinds. Some other great suggestions in the comments. Thanks Matt
Congrats… on the WIN… AWESOME JOB… VERY HAPPY FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY…. Try a Zoom swamp crawler normal 6 inch very good wacky…😊
I used to use worms like that only Texas rigged with size 4 owner riggin’ hooks and 1/32 oz billet weights. They absolutely do get bit when nothing else will it seems.
Never tried. Will do tomorrow, looking forward to something new
Man I’ll try anything to catch bass at Burke Lake.
Caught some key fish today on that senko. Dip tail in orange spike it. Your the man. Lfg 🏆
Really enjoyed the video. Back in the day, late 80s early 90s we called them French fries.
You need to fish Dale Hollow Lake with your finesse stuff.
One of my favorite ways is under a float, like a float and fly! …I have done this for years with PHENOMENAL! success ….Cream makes a great little worm….. Berkley and other companies make an array of miscellaneous trout worms that work as well.
french fry is good worm to try
If you need a little weight just crimp a little splitshot weight onto your hook.
Osp mmz small works well
Thanks for sharing. We here have applied the baits under 2.2" for years. If you applied the baits more than 3.5", then 90% will be failure. This has been tested in here for 17 years. high pressure situation!
I have been wacky rigging a 3” TRD on a missile baits micro jig 1/16 oz. Because the TRD floats you need that little bit of weight to help it sink. As it falls you get the wiggle of the wacky TRD and that causes the skirt of the jig to move around. I fish a very pressured lake and I can fish a spot that I just watched someone else fish and go through and catch fish. The majority of the time they are good keeper size fish.
Wow!!! now thats thinking outside the box, I have not tried this but will for sure give it a go, thanks Champ for the tip!!!
This is a fun one, I will try this on my BFS. Thanks Matt!
We were just in WI fishing. My son used a 3" tiny worm on a ultralight 1/32oz Texas Rig. All he did was pull it through the weeds. He was hammering 3.6-4.2lbs bass all day.
hey Matt! That has been my trout fishing setup for many many yrs. Of course that’s using a pink 3” worm. Like you mentioned, the gulp version works well too. I haven’t tried diff colors for bass, but I know it gets you some good bream too for fun fishing as well for kids. 🙂
Working a wacky ZMan TRD along grass edges with a BFS Daiwa Silver Creek and a 6’10” Dobyns super ultra finesse rod is one of my favorite ways to go after pressured fish. I have also fished that same rig in the mountains and streams for trout. Shh trick is sipe the thicker worm.
Do not buy sponsored baits from this channel. Anyone can catch with a Walmart set up from a shore. Bass fishing is overrated country music show me your fish concieted bud lite drinkers. Try that in my small town
Clickbait or ad this channel is for pro anglers only.
So basically fish bite anything and its easy if you use every product in the market. Sell a Native a $1000 combo and licenses to feed his fam.
cool video
B lat does this and has done it. Big finesse guy
what weight size do you generally use as a drop shot?
Rayle's rig aka twink worm.
That is very interesting!
Congratulations on your win and thank you for sharing. In tidal water on a dead tide it’s deadly. I used a small sinko back then to get a third in the tournament. I hope you keep your streak going.
Shhhhhhhhhh, that works, Shhhhhhhh 🫣
And the Realis wiggle crawler 3.8 works well too. I'm able to fish it on BFS casting gear. I use the 3" senko all the time.
Do you snell the smaller hooks?
I've been using the Jack all Micro Flick 2.5, Flick Shake 2.8 and 3.8 for quite a few years.
👍👍👍👍👍
I like the bps 3 in stiko and there 3in split tail stiko which is a little thicker
Love this idea!
Great advice. Less plastic, less hook damage, will get bites when fishing is slow. I usually put very small tungsten insert weights on both sides when wacky rigging those tiny things to get more distance and a faster fall. it doesn't have the natural wiggle the standard ones do, so imparting some action is good.
Great tip. I would like to try that special worm in the three rivers Pittsburgh,Pa. If you can spare a few of your fav. Hand pour worms i'd love to try them here in these dink fest pressured waters to see what it does. Thanks apprec. It
Hey Matt, congrats on the UMRI win! That was AWESOME! 💪
Nice technique it reminded me when I use to fish 1/4oz rattle traps on spinning gear on 15lb test, oops I guess I gave one of mine too, great info 👍
Giving up the juice. I use hand poured trout worms and JDM Jackall has some small worms along with Reins, including the cross swamp
Berkley Havoc Money Maker was ahead of its time. Great discontinued bait that did exactly this.
Also the zoom super fluke in crystal clear color works really well on pressured fish
Thanks Matt
I wonder how well those Gulp earthworms would work for this technique. Those thing are like Gulp minnows in that they'll catch anything!
awesome tip again. like I said in your other wacky video the other day still trying to build my confidence up in the wacky rig. maybe this will help. just always had bad luck with wacky rigs for what ever reason.
Did you ever try a roboworm with about a inch trimmed off for that technique
Great video. I’m convinced you can wacky rig any soft plastic bait. Worms (any size), flukes, creature and craw baits. …. I use 4” robo worms or zman / zoom 4” finesse worms. I trim them a bit and throw them out there on a vmc neko hook in size 1 I think it is
Well going to Cayuga Sunday for my tournament. I've got to believe that's a pressured lake so depending how things go just might give this a shot. Thanks for the new tip. Soon all of us viewers will be fishing as good as you
Matt, In addition to the 3" Yamamoto Senko, try wacky rigging the 4" Zoom Fish Doctor (or it's BPS copy Dr. Fin-Eke). I guarantee these provide great action that catch nice bass. Brad
