As the water continues to warm, one technique keeps coming to mind… topwater. Specifically – THE CROWBAR. The Crowbar can be fished like a frog. It can be fished like a buzzbait. It can be fished in the thick, nasty, algae that covers many of our shallow Midwest lakes. It’s something I have tied on at all times – and as you’ll see, it’s for good reason…

This Midwest fishing trip was from the second week of May. Air temps climbed from the 60s to 80°. Storms were moving in, but the wind was very calm. Water was warm: 66° to start, but showing 72° on the surface by the end of the day… well… before the storms showed up…

The Minimalist Fisherman: In the Field focuses on bass fishing tips and techniques that will help you catch more fish all throughout the Midwest. Everything we write about – we test.

If it’s good – we keep it. If it’s not – we minimize it!

“If I’m not catching fish with it – I’m not writing about it. Period.”
