My Profile:
http://www.mattstefanfishing.com/
I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I’ve been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I’ve qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.
I think you've nailed it, sounds really good, do you think the money badger will play in any of them? Oh don't forget about the spinnerbait!
Those sound like solid picks. I like your game plan. Go get em and show those BPT guys what Midwest fishing is!!!
Are you doing virtual lessons in 2024? The page on FTM is gone…
Can't wait to follow along with the BPT progress!
Good luck this year π
TB is 4.25 ft low. Hope you don't have a strong North or South wind. Good luck this year and be safe.
I think you are right what you want to sit on your video but what about if you want about if they don't work for you when you switch over to something photos of curious want to know if you would good
Sounds like a winning formula to meβ¦ hereβs to a great first year on the BPT and I sure hope you kick all of their butts so you can make it in 2025!!!
As a bass fanatic, bass trick hollow minnows where released about 30 years ago and I had used them for years now they are more effective than before, angler pressures has affect ,just keep it in mind that what may not work when they first move shallow and there cold an green minded things in the spring change quickly ,we are educating with good an bad experiences .
Happy holidays Matt and Happy New Year! All the best for 2024! Good luck for the upcoming season and love this type of video as I think about the lures and baits that will work way ahead of the time even as a weekend fisherman. One bait that I believe will be a major player is the minnow/worm type bait that has some form of pin tail or twin pin tail. It can be used as a drop shot, ned rig, hover/mid strolling or as a trailer on a spinnerbait and chatterbait. I have picked up the new Rapala version of this bait and some others I found on sale for Boxing Day and can't wait to try them.
Sounds like some winning baits for sure !! Best of luck this season
Great video, Matt. It'll be cool following you this season! I've done well there with a C-rig lizzard, and Strike King 6XD.
Do you have some pike video,or tutorials,I see many big lures on you back! π Thanks and happy new year!π
Power Switch is where I keep telling you about crappie jigs being better Hover…no FFS needed. The one in the thumbnail or Hover you are better off making your own with separate jighead for less with better result. Chatters are overrated if you understand swimmybaits that can do that, but yall keep saying whatever so let it be so. Chatters ride up and only the head moves. You'd want the tail section to move as well the body. All jerkbaits are not created equal and I do not endorse Megaass, except maybe Mags and +2. It's gotta be situation related. Shallow cranks can be excluded as many other lures can do a better job in the shallow. Finesse Whacky is the only time I Whacky bc I can use a top dropshot like Randy says it's one of the best in 2023 or throw the Senko as should be. Note that I don't need plastics to catch bass unless it's very tough. Not too much is tough. Smallies are best on hard lures. All season, everywhere, anywhere. Yall just don't understand how to Smallie, but eh, I'm not supposed to be on this channel anymore.
So excited to follow you on the BPT. I love the announcers and the way they cover the event. Super excited! Good luck!!
Always remember that dynamite works in every lake no matter what season it is. π Good luck
Thanks Matt. You will crush it this year.
Caught my first fish on the Izard rig today. Sure it will the first of many. Canβt wait to you put out the smaller sizes. Thanks
Sorry Matt, very selfish question. I have 2 broken ceramic inserts on guides for 2 rods, not tips. Can you tell me what I need, thread, bobbin holder, epoxy, etc to.remove and replace? A video would be great too, but I think I could figure out from your rod build videos if you tell me what stuff to buy.
Oh… or us it possible to just put in a new ceramic inset somehow?
..
I think your nuts for sharing any of your thoughts before tourneys lol. Hopefully you are just throwing them off the scent.
πΊMLF website research states that Toledo Bend that time of year has been won in the past by targeting pre spawn bass in the back of creek channels in and around Housen bay then heading to the main lake and throwing a 6xd
where creek channel bends meet secondary points. The fish apparently stage there before going back into the creek channels in schools to pre-spawn.π€ Timing is key and youβll be practicing in less then a monthπ
Pre spon, l have guide over the years, there's back water runs that can get you to your fish if the wend blows, very dangerous if you don't know where to run. Like to go back, fished Bass, FLW there. Good luck, Be Safe
Hey Matt, just for your information, the Chowan River is not a tidal river. The river does not fluctuate with ocean tides. It is wind driven. A strong north wind will blow the water out. A persistent south wind will cause the river to rise. Ocean tides do not effect the river.
πΊAbsolutely love that the tournament season is almost upon usπ€ .
Matt don't forget a crankbait for tidal waters π
Very cool list!
Thanks Matt , The only one I know is the St Lawarnce. Many packs needed flat worm is a perfect bait for current.
where can i go to watch you fish live during these events?
Good luck in 2024. Very interesting knowing your thought process for choosing a lure. Happy new year to you and yours.
My experience on my waters is they seldom fish the same from year to year. So I stay prepared for anything. Several years ago a nearby lake was even flooded by some 8-10 feet. You could only see the roof of the marina. The north launch was closed had to do the southern.
Good Luck in 2024
Iβve been watching old MLF cup events in preparation for 2024βs events. I canβt wait for this year to start. Stoked to watch you compete with the best of the best.
Also, I mentioned retiring baits and other equipment before. I saw KVD go over his tackle room, and he had some retired baits he talked about out. It really made me curious what you have retired, and why you retired them. Is that video worthy for you? π«‘
Toledo Bend and Sam Rayburn are 2 different animals these days which is sad because Toledo use to be a phenomenal lake and now its only a good one. I was up there through the Christmas holiday at my camp and had the lake pretty much to myself and caught some extremely healthy fish ond day… I caught a 7lb3oz and a 6lb15oz fish in back to back cast and probably had close to a 27lb bag with my best 5 fish one day then a hard cold front blew through and had a much slower day following the front and almost couldn't buy a bite for the 3rd day… but yall are some of the best in the world and I normally always learn something new by watching yall out here so I really can't wait to see how yall do. Great video as always keepem coming man!!
I bet you're getting excited about getting the 2024 season started. I think your bait selection is great and hope it gets you some wins. Do you know what size hook is on that Power Switch? I was thinking of trying them for walleye jigging this spring in the 3.5 or 4.25 length but I'm concerned that the hooks might get a little large for walleye. I can't find the hook sizes anywhere online. Thanks!
Sounds like a winner to me. The commenters Compton and Oconnor must be related they look a lot a like.ππππππππ
Sounds good. I wish you the best and hope your strategies put you in the winning circle. π
I've been waiting for this video!
Thanks Matt, wish you all the best this coming season!! Hope these baits get em for you!! Santee cooper maybe a spinnerbait, and swimming worm could be a good addition.
I like using jigs and spinner baits for Pier fishing in February and in summer
