My Profile:
http://www.mattstefanfishing.com/

I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I’ve been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I’ve qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.

  1. Make sure you don’t try the OSP Varuna 110 SP. It’ll make you want to throw out everything else. Can be fished on heavier line (14 lb. fluoro). Will hit 8 feet, too, with downward twitches on 10 lb. fluoro

  2. What about shad shapes. I’ve had really good luck with #5 glass raps. And similar baits that suspend. And good hard pulls let sit. Pulls let sit. I’ve had fish 🐠 smash that in muddy currents in rivers.

  3. Glad you mentioned the OG rogue. The perfect 10 rogue is a fish catcher as well. Love the action on the Stunna but the hooks are so delicate they done after a couple fish. Swap them out immediately

  4. Matt I have a question about hook replacement. I damage a hook on a Megabass 110 Jr +1 and would like to stay with the original brand of hooks but don’t know what they are. I replaced it with a #8 Berkley Fusion because the weighed the same. Please give me your thoughts on original hooks.

  5. Nice video Matt. Timeline-wise, I think you confused the popularity of technique with the manufacturers catching up to what the anglers were doing. It's been popular as a winter bait for more than 50 years, anglers just had to weight their baits.

I've still got some Skinny Cutter 110+1s new in box if you're interested. 🤙 Tight lines.

  6. Anyone have luck on the Yo-zuri jerkbaits. I bought a few in the equivalent size to the V110, and some smaller ones. I’m not liking the 110 ones because when stopped, the weight system puts the nose down so much that the bait looks like it’s at an 85 degree angle. Looks unnatural. I’ve put some suspend strips on the bottom of the tail to try to balance it out a little, but that seems to send it falling backwards sometimes. Any tips on these Yo-zuris other than throwing them away? The smaller ones I like better as they don’t pitch as much.

  7. I bought one of the Shimano boxes from TW last year and it had their world minnow in it. It actually was in a great color for catching bass. Bottom line I used it quite a lot but only caught a few fish on it. I’d pick up another rod with my Megabass 110 and catch fish. Quite the difference. I thought it was just me. Of course I was fishing it on bright sunny days so I might need to try it on cloudy days where the flash boost may help.

  8. I remember the first big bass that I caught on a jerkbait. It was a 8 1/4 pounder. That was in 1982 on Fayette County Lake in Texas using a 5 5/8” Chrome Red Fin made by Cotton Cordell.
To this day I still like using the two hook jerkbaits.

  9. At some point, I hope it occurs to the critics that you are at a level where you have choices when it comes to companies with whom to work and that you pick Berkley bc of some of the lures they make (and how they make them — scientific research!) rather than promoting a co for $. On the other hand, I suspect most of them just want to criticize. The Nanahan series has worked very well for me. I’ve caught like 2 fish in the world minnow. My fish don’t eat it. X-70, super small, is also good. I don’t have the shad rap history you do.

  10. Hi Matt. New sub here. Quick question are you using braid to leader on your spinning rod set up. Rouges wow, i have boxes of them from the 4 1/2'" floaters to the P-10s. Never have actually used one as a jerk bait! We troll them here on Erie and Ontario for Walleye Salmon and Trout.

  11. The Shimano Zumverno 95 has been my go to here on lake hartwell for the last three years. It's been out preforming all my other Megabass, Berkley Stunna & Lucky Craft baits of comparable size.

  12. Another excellent video as usual. I use most of the baits you just talked about but I also have had alot of success on the Daiwa T.D. minnow and the Daiwa Double Clutch minnow ( deep diver version ). Keep up the outstanding content I really enjoy it.

  13. I use beastly minnow from renzstein. It is made to be customized. You can fish it out of the pack, you want a shallow you take some plyers and cut the lip shorter, you want it to go down you use the beastly weight system. Im gonna pick up his jerbait rod when it drops and the smallet seize jerkbaits too. Comes with great hooks. I like renz stuff because he is a keen angler/lure builder that creates thf things he want to fish with.

The other one is spaz attack from redeyebaits.

Now this are only sold is sweden as far as I know. But pop them an e-mail and I would not be surprised if they are able to arrange something.

I have to little experience with the big brands to say if they would massively outpreform them but if an amature can go from not really be that keen on jerkbaits too it been some sorh of confidence bait thfn they are doing something right. 🙂

  14. When I started i bought 2 bass pro shops xps jerk bait to learn the technique with. I have never caught as many fish as I did with the perch colour. The gold colour stunna is also excellent.

  15. Great video and I am a Wisconsin boy as well! 👍🏼 I absolutely love fishing Jerkbaits for a variety of species, and the X-Rap is a big favorite of mine. I also fish the old school Rapala Husky Jerk with a lot of success, and the Rapala Original.

Doesn’t matter where I throw those baits, northwoods, southern WI, Green Bay, lakes, rivers, ponds, the bass, pike, walleyes , panfish , Muskies, salmon, and trout eat them up! Jerkbaits are effective almost anywhere year round, and they’re multi species fish catchers!

I’m a Rapala fanatic when it comes to Jerkbaits so most of my box consists of Rapala products. I love using the standard black/silver, olive green/silver, perch patterns personally, can’t go wrong when you match the hatch!

Great video content, and congrats on your tournament win at the Mississippi not too long ago! I look forward to doing some ice fishing this winter, but Spring can’t come soon enough! Can’t wait to throw some Jerkbaits for shallow prespawn Bass! Good luck fishing 🎣

  16. Started on rogues and deep billed rebels with ambassadeur 5500 c reel and a boron 6 ft rod. 1981 That bite was great. Fish didnt have them dangled on their nose then.

  17. The rogues are excellent walleye lures also. I fish during the winter & early spring below the dam
where Bull Shoals Lake starts. Have been fishing that spot for 30 years. Have tried multiple different
jerkbaits & the rogue easily out fishes the other brands.
