A rant from Mike Gilbert on downsizing your terminal tackle on large swimbaits to increase the amount and size of bites. What are you doing to make your baits stand out from the rest?

Man, I appreciate you sharing this. I definitely did not think of the hardware that way!
cant believe im only watchin this now, took alot of of your vid. cheers
So you're saying you've been lying and those lures are overrated?
When your downsizing hardware on a glide bait do you use suspend dots to offset the weight for the sink rate?
Great video bro! K.I.S.S. Method works for me. I watched a YouTube "star" with 60lb braid to a 60lb shock leader upgraded hooks rings but I have never seen a 60lb bass. More rants please 🙏
smart, dude.
Just started focusing jointed swimbait fishing, Great videos and thank you for the info and rants 😀
Great video
Actually makes a lot of sense👍🏽
Are those 1/0? I thought 1/0 trebles were bigger of the bunch?
Thanx! from Idaho"
Agreed, like Bluefin tuna trophy fishing. we underestimate how smart the big bass are. Good info
New sub, I like your approach. I too believe most guys buy oversized tackle because of sum alpha, big bait big fish philosophy. You seem legit, what lure retriever do you count on to get those $100 swimbaits back?
Never seen a Hudd like that. Insane yet genius 👌
Nice. It's rediuculous how little them hooks are!
My exact approach to fishing! Couldn’t agree more! I’m new to swimbaiting: How did you rig your Huddleston worth that EWG hook?
I really appreciate your videos really are super in tune with how your fish and your explain anything,I’m really taking a lot from your vids amazing tips and in sight👌🏻👌🏻👍🏻
I just switched lines is the 25 pound seaguar abrasionsx is that good
Wow, good stuff
Nice video. I like to sometimes paint my plastics hardware to take the chrome off it. I’ve been running black nickle blades even on my spinnerbaits as I know our local area is highly pressured. I also like to paint my plastics in general and if I’m not getting the quality or quantity of bite on my bite i like to even lower the LBS (poundage) of my leader to reduce visibility. Sometimes even using dull colours that doesn’t catch the fisherman’s eye instead with some mixed retrieves will produce. Here in Australia we think the biggest lures are best. Not always the case if you go back to simple basics like matching the hatch.
And this is why i custom paint my baits. I can match the colour pattern closer to what the fish are feeding on in the waters i fish and its just something different than everyone else is throwing. And so far its been working great.
Great information!
I’m definitely going to try this.
What size split rings do you recommend with the size 1 trebles?
What’s you opinion on using 2 split rings per hook so it rotates a little more freely?
How do you install the hook into the hudd like you showed there, I am really interested in doing that with my hudds.
I have heard many different theories on adding feathers on the hook/s (mostly on the front hook of certain baits). Do you have an opinion on feathers?
Cool concept. Smaller hooks means less hook rash too right?
I'm a new subscriber and fairly new to throwing big baits I totally support what you're saying I think that's the only way to go not only match the hatch but give it the most natural presentation possible with that being said I have a couple questions. How do I stop breaking off on hooksets and casting the bait my drag is never locked down and I don't use I baitcaster so no backlashes I use a palomar knot. when I use with my heavier set up it practically never fails but I don't get bit NEARLY as often because of the braid… Different knot or line brand? Or just terrible luck?….
Great thoughts Mike
What hooks to downsize on a deps 175? Idk what hooks to use and what brand, owner stx I’m guessing
More tech videos please, you break down the knowledge better then anyone out there. Keep up the great work Mike. #knowledge 👊🏼
I like the huddleston mod man, I've been considering cutting mine open to see what I can do.
I really like these informative vids, dude. I've been wanting to get into Big Swim bait bass fishing and this video and all your other videos are very helpful.
