How To

The SECRET’S Out! The Only CHATTERBAIT you NEED!

The Z Man Chatterbait is one of my favorite lures for bass – and the Chatterbait Mini Max is even better. I wish I knew about 2 key retrieves when fishing the Mini Max when I started fishing it. In this video I show you what Chatterbait trailers, Chatterbait rod and reel setup, and how to fish the Z Man Chatterbait Mini Max.

  1. Cool advice again. Whenever I want new ideas and tactics, i come to your website. Never disappointed. Always learning. I'm 73 and fascinated with lures. Apparently I love plastic lures of every technique. My speed bags are full. Really enjoy your joy over fishing……dude.

  2. I feel like a 1/2 Oz thunder cricket would work great here. Especially with rolling the bottom like that. I love the little divets on the thunder cricket blade. I think it allows bait/blade action to move or start vibrating much sooner, therefore giving you more vibrations and is easier to activate the water displacement of the bait. Therefore giving you a few more cha ces in the strike zone each cast. Hope this makes sense

  3. I really like dragging a bladed jig along the bottom like a football jig. If you have a good one where that blade starts thumping really easy then it can drive those fish nuts! I like to give a couple of stroked like I'm ripping a jig every so often as well. I've gotten hit on the fall more times than I can count.

  4. The combo is key! That whippy rod smokes em with the Ole 3/8 Randy runner long lining over hard bottom spots! Fluke trailer and slow rolling bottom.same deal rod doubles and fish hooks itself💥🎣😆👍the tricky juice was the retrieves you were using! Awsome MBRF 👌

  5. No BS boys Mikey wouldnt lie. I pulled out a double digit PB with pretty much this exact technique. Medium Moderate action. They choke that chatterbait.

  6. Great mod on the clip…that literally just happened to me Sunday. I don't fish chatterbaits too often, but I was getting wore out by the guy in the back of the boa fishing a chatterbait, so I forced myself to throw it and started catching em and then the clip opened up just like you said in the video. Good stuff as usual…tightlines!

  7. When they don't eat a crank I use the chatterbait doing the samething your were doing and everybody thinks I'm using a crank because they see my 7' Lews cranking rod

  8. Awesome video boss!!!! Shout out to boggs!!!!!!! One trick to try when fishing around gill beds is to remove skirt an put on a Berkley gilly size 90. Then fish it just like you were doin. Killer. You rock.

  9. Question… why do people cast with their right hand and switch the rod back to their left hand to crank with their right again?
It's always made me wonder. I'm right handed and crank with my right hand. But I cast with my left. It seems like a lot of extra work, switching the rod back and forth. I never understood it. Just train and cast with your left… 🤔

  10. I boated a largemouth the other evening and that exact same thing happened. Luckily, I caught it before I casted back out again.
    Great video Balzz!

  11. Have you ever had any problems with any SLX reels? I currently have one that just cuts my line on casts. It will tear my braid up to the point where I need to cut it and tie a new leader on. Even tried straight fluoro and I watched about 10 ft of my line along with my senko, fly across the pond I was fishing. Have not had my luck with the Slx. The SLX DC I've had for a year and a half and it's phenomenal though, never had an issue with that one just the regular slx. Specifically the 8 gear ratio one

  12. Mikey I came from Nickajack my whole life to Guntersville for the first time yesterday eve and this morning and I can honestly say Gville is my new home ! I tore them up on the dirty white colored jackhammer with an albino spunk Shad , just submerged grass in pockets and flats , early morning! Love that technique and retrieve with the mini ! Definitely gonna try

  13. Bro!!!! And as always!!!! Money tips and tricks from,"the only guy", on YouTube who will tell you like it is!!!! Thanks for the info and tight lines to you homie!!!!

  14. Hello, Mike. I've been a fan and subscriber for a long time. I have a question. Because I live in a community with direct access to Lake Toho (Kissimmee), I fish it 100% of the time. I've tried fishing chatter baits but have yet to catch a fish with them!!! Please advise on the colors I should use. I usually fish with a 3/8 Black Blue, but as I previously stated, I have had very poor results!!! Another question is whether it is a good bait to use in Toho during the summer. I would greatly appreciate your feedback.
